Hello All,

New boat owner here and last week we had our 2013 R5 delivered. It was driven from Florida to Texas and the company who did it left the top up which caused damaged on the way. The main issue I have is that the bolts broke off inside the boat (picture attached)and I am looking for advice on how to remove them. Is this something I should just let the pros handle ? I did think about just replacing the part that screws into the boat (not sure what to call it) but I have questions.

1. Any idea where to find that part so I could just unscrew it and replace instead of trying to drill out the broken screw/bolt. What would you even call that part ?
2. Are the screws that are inside the frame for the top pretty standard that I can just pick up at Home Depot ?
3. The bimini top ripped in transit also and I am confused on how to find the right size for my boat.

It’s difficult to visualize without a pic. I’ll go into your post and see if I can get your picture to display.

Honestly I think with all that damage I would file an insurance claim or at least have the professionals take care of it on their end. Can you do it?..,Certainly. But then anything you do with issues down the road will not be covered under warranty.

Hey Wingfan. Sorry to hear about your damage. I'm not sure how that should be fixed but you should definitely file a claim. Who arranged the transport, you or the dealer you bought it from?? Did you sign a delivery receipt or Bill Of Lading when your received the boat, and if so, did you notate the damage on the bill/ receipt?

I am replacing those mounts on our 2020 R5 with a quick release mount to allow easier raising/lowering of the bimini. Do you still need that piece?

Also, do you know how to gain access on the port side rear bimini mount? I still have to do that side and I don't see an obvious way to gain access to the inside mounting plate.

You can back the broken bolt out with an Easy Out, available at basically any hardware store.

Right up the point where the hardened EZ out snaps and you have to deal with that.....Rescue Bit to the Rescue.. I center punch it and try to drill before I used an EZ out---hate those things.

Just put a nut over it and weld it on from the inside of the nut and it will come right out.

Holy cow BBP knows how to do these. I used to love broken off exhaust bolts when I was doing flat rate. The more there were the more hours I could bank. The welder method was the only one I would use. I used to watch other techs struggle all afternoon with easy outs then the bigger drill bit and heli coil after they destroyed the original hole. I would have one done in 15 minutes and each additional one would just add 1 minute. Weld the nut - let it cool(the heat and cooling of the bolt/stud is the secret here) then simply unscrew with a small wrench.

It's a lot easier to run to the local hardware store for an EZ Out than for a welder.

All day long baby. All 3 big manufacturers have this issue. We make big bucks on this.

Word of warning, don’t use a bunch of degreaser on the area before sparking the welder, don’t ask how I know.
