My brother in law just bought a Chaparral because of this feature. At first, I really liked how it added to Cobalt's design, but seeing it fully deployed, I don't like how it takes away from the swim step space. I'm also concerned about the complexity of the mechanism which looks like an expensive fix should something stop working.

However, I was shocked at what you could buy a loaded Chaparral for compared to an R7. But, I'm not convinced that Chaparral has the quality for the longevity that I see with Cobalt.

hahahahahha I have thought the same thing A7. I really do not understand the rave about these electronic steps. They are expensive, 1 more thing to fail, and adds more weight to a already heavy boat. The swim step on my R7 is literally 10lbs. and you do not give up any of your platform when you deploy it.

Honestly, the Chaparral step seems better-designed than the Cobalt one - it's clever how it's articulated to provide a middle step when it unfolds.

I like it too. I wonder if it hours the drive when it's all the way up? Also I like how they added cleats to the swim platform. Nice for tying mats to it.

Count me as a fan.....at least upon first look. Not sure if the missing space on the platform would matter or not....

Our kids use the swim platform to run across for a diving board, count me out. Not to mention when it gets stuck down.

I just think there are several other options I'd rather spend $5,000 on. Lets see: Windlass or vacuflush head and sink or narrowing the cost gap of $35,000 between the stern drive and the surf model. I just don't see the big value in this option. in addition, it would have more value to me if it could be operated from the helm with a "pinch guard" system to avoid injury and a system to not allow the engine to start if the outdrive was going to interfere with the step when deployed. Maybe some of that functionality is there, but it isn't described on the web site

If it can haul my fat a## out of the lake after a few too many adult beverages, it might be worth it. Otherwise, nope. I’m with BobRae, I’d spend the same $5k on something of value to me like Capt Call.

Agreed. I'm almost 68, too much belly, bad wrist; but I've found a way to get in easily. Technique matters.

I really like it.
I find Cobalt's easy but many friends have a hard time putting it up and down with out some training. Grandma doesn't like it says it is too big of a step out of the water, I know she would find this easier for sure.
Cobalt will probably sue them for patent infringement.

My Brother in law ordered his new boat, so hopefully we will be at the regatta next year and I can have him show you guys how it works. I think the Cobalt addition that BBP posted is a nice middle ground. A couple just rented a slip on our dock and parked their 2015 270 Searay Sundeck. They just bought it for about $80K with 50 hours. That is a lot of boat for the money, but still not a Cobalt. Anyway, I was shocked to see that they had a swim step. I didn't look closely at the operation, but it looked very similar to Cobalt's design.

Here is their version. This makes you wonder if they paid Cobalt to use that? Go to the 3:05 mark of the video.

I really don't think Sea Ray would ever think of copying anything much less a swim step from Cobalt. They are way smarter then that. Odd it would be like ours
