Can't get lower unit lined back up. Alpha One original.

Crap! Took my lower drive unit off to change the impeller and now I can't get it back on all the way. Not sure if the drive shaft is hitting or that little shifter gear tube fell down a little and is out of line. 1986 Alpha One on 17BR. Frustrated, tried to put it on and off half a dozen times or more. Until it got dark and wore me out. Any ideas?

That's alright. The mechanic fairies came last night and lined everything up, while I was sleeping. Went out and looked at it, started tightening it up and everything went together and worked. What I don't get is I only drained a little over a quart from the drive and it only took about a quart. I thought they held two quarts of gear lube?

Mine used to take a quart and a half. Did you fill it from the bottom up?

Yeah, I did. Until it was running out the upper vent hole.
