Been looking to purchase my first boat, want something that I can take the family out on the lake for water sports (surfing, wakingboardin tubing) and also go cruise aroud out here in the Puget Sound. Been drawn to the CS23 Surf. I found this used boat, got them knock off an additional 3K from the price, only 90hrs on it. https://hagadonemarine.com/boat-invento ... f/7592618/ Stongly considering it, looking for any thoughts out there, reasonably priced? Any comments from people that own/have owned a CS23 surf and how you have like it?

That boat looks pretty clean and will sell fast. Having the 300HP in a 23 should work fine for ya'.

Just remember the props will drive down when you trim up so if you plan on going into any shallow areas the threat of striking your props is something of which to be aware.

Ask them to throw in a free winterization, fluid and impeller change.....then pull the trigger.

Thanks, pretty excited about it, really think it will be something that is a lot of fun for the family. Propeller strikes is a concern i have with the FWD facing unit. Been wondering how much of an issue that has really been for people.

The boat is already winterized so I got that part covered. I'll have to work on the extra prop!

Nice...and I like your thinking with the extra prop. We had one member strike the trailer with the forward facing props. It's a unique system with which to get acquainted. I don't think it would work for us with as much beach boating that we do in addition to water sports.

I would not power load on the trailer. Get a two speed 3200 lbs winch and pull on with the strap

I say go for it! Get good insurance. Most deductibles are $500 to 1%

We were thinking real hard about buying an in-stock CS23 surf last summer until I actually seen how far down it hung down under the boat. I had envisioned it would raise up and out of the water like a conventional VP outdrive but maybe just not as much. The reality it the exact opposite the prop goes deeper, so unless your on a larger body of water this can be an issue. Our lake isnt that deep and even one ramp is questionable, so we just opted to wait on an order. In the end its bitter sweet, we will have more storage without the ballast tanks, but I think surfing would be more fun and much easier on my body than skiing or tubing.

We have 210 hours on our R5 Surf and have only had one incident with the prop hitting but it was 40 yard from a channel marking buoy that was in the wrong spot. Bottom line is you need about 30” of depth and if your lake has a bunch of shallower spots or you need to beach it often the forward drive is not the best option. We love the ability to surf and have zero regrets on Buying a surf boat.

Thanks for all the feed back guys, for the most part I would say locations I plan on taking the boat are not overly shallow. Going to go take one out for a spin on Monday since I haven't seen it in person yet, baring something unforseen we most likely be making the purchase!

TJ. Sounds like you have it under control. I followed the link to the boat; it’s Razorback Red ... love it. I snooped around that site a little .... the Coeur Customs boats are amazing; I had never heard or seen that brand of boat. The old Chris-Crafts are really cools too. Best of luck with the new CS23 Surf.

Gorgeous color! You don't see many red boats, so you will get a lot of head-turners. They should knock another $3K off for misspelling "popular". Also, what about negotiating free over-winter storage a part of the deal?

So your going to drive one by your local dealer then go by this one in Utah?
Is the surf model a must?

Exactly, Go to a loacl dealer to take one for a spin before I make the long drive to Idaho (5hrs each way). The loacl dealer only has new ones and i want to save some money by going used, especially if Ican get one with only 90hrs on it.

And yes I really want the surf package

Beautiful combo of art and blue Merc muscle on the water. Of course they forgot about the maintenance of wood which even forced Chris Craft to eventually go fiberglass. But then again you can have your Butler or Caretaker do the upkeep.
