Cs22 / cs23 4-in-1 gauge information

Post by boydwr0505 »

Hi all - new to the forum, I have a loaded 220s on order for spring 2021! I got the garmin gps option but I don’t love the idea of losing the two small gauges (fuel, trim, eng temp, batt level). I am wondering if I can buy the multifunction gauge from the cs22 with those 4 needles and wire it right into the 220s? I’d cut it in on the blank spot on the right side of the dash. It seems the Medallion gauge system has the main lcd gauge connect to the CAN-P network and the other smaller ones connect to the main one. Can you send pics of the back of this gauge and any information you can share about how it is wired into the cs22?? Thanks!!

Hey bw505. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Can't help you with your question but others here may have a pic of the back side.

How 'bout a few more pics of your 220s. How is she powered?

Again, welcome aboard mate!

What engine did you buy? You could go with the vessel view mobil from Merc or the Volvo version. I have it and love having all the data in front of me

I got the Merc 6.2L 300HP. I have been researching the vesselview 403, it’s the 4 inch screen that I could mount flush in the dash on the ride side where I was thinking of mounting this 4-in1. I as well would love the information but I’m not in love with the idea of needing to use or mount my phone... also considering just getting the Merc NMEA gateway and piping the engine data right to the Garmin.

You might just want to call call in to Cobalt support and let them know your plans. They may decide to do it for you. I would guess the pig tail is still there for the gauge.

That would be awesome and I tried to get more info. I sent a message on ‘contact us’. I didn’t get very far here’s what the customer service person said: “Unfortunately that is not available with the standard wiring in the 220S from the factory. That’s not to say it couldn’t be done but plug and play with that option is not available.“

Personally I think there’s more to be had here but not sure who to call. I might actually try medallion directly...

I am in almost the exact same situation. I ordered my 2020 220S with the Garmin flanked by speedo and tach. I was very dismayed to find that by purchasing the Garmin option ($2500 for a $800 display), Cobalt stiffed me one more time by deleting the standard boat's speedometer with two scrolling info displays and replacing it with a speedometer with no displays, and the Garmin is not NMEA connected. I really like more information visible all the time so I am working on alternatives. After logging 50 hrs this past summer, the speedometer has worked for maybe 60% of the time. I really don't miss it because I have the much more accurate GPS speedometer on the Garmin display. I am tossing around the idea to replace the speedometer with either the combination gauge or the speedometer from the standard model. I contacted Garmin about this last possibility and got the reply:" You would need to order 414846 thru your local Dealer." Not the best solution, but at least I would have 2 more parameters visible than I have now. I'm sure it will be hideously expensive.

I would love to have any information on how to bring the Garmin online with NMEA connectivity and Vessel View.

Thanks for replying! What do you mean it only worked 60% if the time? The sales guy told me the speedo dial is tied to gps and not pitot tube anymore. Also hate to say it but I think they deleted the lcd on the speedo dial even for standard helm setup. I drove one, this exact boat, take a look at the pic. https://www.ericksonmarine.com/boats-fo ... a-7572417/

I think at a minimum I’m going to connect the engine with the garmin via nmea. Then I will get live depth on the garmin (also can’t believe this isn’t there from factory). And I could throw fuel level, engine temp, and battery on too. Only thing is I’d like a decent trim gauge.

I believe you need to make a nmea network, and you push the engine data in via the Mercury gateway https://www.mercruiserparts.com/mercury ... ateway-can

Then you add your garmin to the nmea network you created and I believe you have to use a power isolator so that you don’t have any power conflicts based on this document https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp ... 75BD5.html

You guys have got me wondering now. I have also ordered a new boat for next year (cs23) with the 7607 Garmin. Wondering if that is a mistake - I still have one more opportunity to make changes to my order before it goes into production.

Question: One of the main reasons I ordered the Garmin was to be able to load navigational charts - can anyone tell if this function works well?

Thanks

@go4it I have gone back and forth as well, but I’m sticking with it because I want maps, and I want the clean recessed dash mount. To me that was worth having to deal with not having as much other dash-mounted gauges. It’s sucks that the R series comes with all of this working and mine does not. I’m not sure about the cs23 you’d have to call your dealer or email Cobalt.

I made sure to get the Merc with DTS which I think ensures the most of the information would be available to get to a nmea network (fuel level, water depth, engine temp, trim level, etc).

Would you be willing to post some pics from under the dash? Like is there a 10-pin engine data junction box (splitter) under there? Would be purple female connections. Are the plugs for the deleted fuel and trim gauges sitting there unused? I’m still hoping someone with a cs22/cs23 posts a picture of the all in one gauge.
