1980 Cobalt 19’ 260

Post by MechMike »

Hello everyone. I recently bought this 1980 Cobalt 19’ bow rider with a Mercruiser 260. I bought it for the engine and outdrive for another project. I’ll be taking them out next week. I just wanted to see if there was any interest in the hull for parts before I haul it to the landfill. If there is something you need I’d be happy to take it off for you and ship it. The floor is rotted so I don’t think the hull is in too good of shape.

Hey MechMike. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

Thanks for the parts boat picture. Hopefully someone here can benefit from your find. That windshield may be coveted.

What do you plan on doing with the engine and outdrive in your latest project ?

Again welcome aboard mate!

Aslan7, I hope someone can use that windshield as it is perfect. All the teak is restored as well (previous owner did that). I hate to see hard-to-find parts go to waste. I’d restore the boat but honestly I think it’s too far gone to make any sense financially. I had been looking for a v8 inboard with outdrive to re-power my 4cyl powered pontoon when I found this boat. I’m currently welding up an aluminum engine pod to fit the larger v8. I like the Cobalt style far more than the toon but the toon works better for my family on the shallow reservoir near our home.

Toons definitely have their place and purpose. We always enjoyed the ones we’ve been on throughout our boating years.

Maybe keep the windshield if you have storage space for it. Place an ad on Craigslist or eBay with a “local pickup required” notice if you don’t want to ship. There are one for two internet companies which specialize in used boat windshield sales. They may be able take it off your hands as well.

Post a picture of your toon project if you so desire. We love all watercraft here. 8-)

Man, I am late to the party on this one. A rotted floor means nothing on these boats. The stringers are fiberglass. The hull is so thick in glass it’s no issue. A new floorboard is a weekend job. Likely needs a transom. I just picked up another ‘79 with soft floor and no power package. I’ll get it up an running soon.

Sure hope someone made a good home for this one. Would make a great story for YourClassicCobalt.com

Well I’m even later responding but the boat is still here. I still haven’t pulled the engine/drive out either. Just got busy with other things.
