2014 Cobalt 232 Amp wire leads?

Hello, I own a 2014 232, the stock audio setup was the base setup on my boat. Sony head unit and 6 speakers. No transom or tower speakers, no sub and no amp.

I recently replaced the head unit and I have ordered more equipment, an amp, sub and new 6.5’s. For powering the amp I saw leads that are 8 gauge in the compartment where the head unit sits, they are labeled amp (currently not attached to anything as the boat did not have an amp installed at the factory). 8 gauge will be sufficient for the amp I ordered. I was able to trace the ground wire back to the grounding distribution block. My issue is I can’t see where the positive wire runs too. I want to check the fuse size to ensure it’s sufficient. It does not run to the battery, it does not run to the battery switch power block either. I’m hoping somebody who is familiar can tell me where the positive amp wire runs to?

I appreciate the help.

Well did you see what preferred Guage wire your amp will want. Yes they use that small stuff. Yes it will work. Yes if you push the amp hard it could cut out.
We around here just prefer to do it right.
So to answer your question go back by your perko. Look on that back wall area and you will find circuit breakers. That's where your amp wires are going to. Or not connected but close to that area. And I think they are 20amp breakers.

The amp instructions specifically say 8 gauge so that should work. The amp I ordered is an infinity m704a. I looked behind the perko switch. I saw two connections. One says helm and the other says bildge pump . I don’t see any that say amplifier. I will look again to see if I can find anything. Thank you.

Yes, that's where I looked, mine is similar to yours, I have a helm and bilge but not the amplifier one. Do you know if your boat had an amp installed from the factory by any chance? Asking this, because I wonder if its possible that Cobalt runs the wire but does not hook it up to anything on either the power or amp end if an amp is not installed at the factory.

Thank you for the help.

I called Cobalt to ask. They explained the amp wire im referring to runs to the circuit breaker panel behind the helm, its on a 20 amp breaker (like you said).

With that being said I ordered a power kit for the amp which I will run directly to a 2nd battery with an inline 60 amp fuse.

Thanks again for the help.

No mine did not have a amp before. I had a amp wire to that breaker then I also had another one close to that breaker but inside the access cover right there that you get from the engine side that w not connected to anything.
