Help with Colors!

Post by carrera »

Started my R6 Surf order. Have everything nailed down except maybe the hardest thing to choose...color. I am a conservative, low key guy. Our Mastercraft was white with a navy blue bottom. :) I don't think that works for the R6, so considering Shale with white bottom and navy stripe, or Ebony with white bottom....or...not sure. Any of you guys have some pics of your R boats to show me? Only guideline I have is no Red as I don't like that color for school rivalry reasons. Never have liked it, never will. :D

On options, going with dealer recommendations for Tahoe. Starting with 380 Volvo.

R6 surf? I guess I missed the memo. You might check out the New Member section. Pics are required. There are several unique color combos throughout that thread. My wife & I really like the Shale. Navy and Ebony are always classics. I’m thinking my next one will have matching colors on the hull side & bottom with a white boot stripe.

Have a buoy. Will be put in lake at beginning of season and put into storage at end.

Thanks...I spent some time going through the New Member section but R series boats seem to be a small number. Saw some interesting color combinations...like a Florida Gators combination (blue/orange). :)

The "Design Your Dream" function on the website doesn't really give a vivid view of the colors...for example, Shale looks a little dull, while I am sure it looks good in person.

Yes the Surf isn't on the website yet, but will be in production for this upcoming season and that is what I am ordering.

Here’s our 2014 R5. I never would have guessed that I would have a white boat because I like bold colors but we love it! It doesn’t hardly show water spots or fine scratches like all boats get. We get a ton of compliments with it too.

You need a white bottom. Cobalt doesn’t recommend coloured bottoms for wet slipped boats and won’t warrant the gel coat colour. They say the colour can “bloom” or discolour. I wet slip my black/red white bottom. I think it looks pretty sharp but the white with black boot stripe looks pretty classy too.

While the colours look nice, as I wrote, if the OP chooses anything other than white for a wet slip boat, he is on his own when the colour fades or blooms.

I like the new bayside blue for a side hull color with a white bottom. Maybe a navy hull stripe?

It’s much sharper in real photos than on the Cobalt website configuration. Very classy color.

I had a all red hull and it was easier to clean then my white hull. After a season of sitting in the water they all look green like yours at the end anyways. So then you just wash them down and stick them back in the water anyways.

My comment doesn't relate to the clean-ability, it relates to the degradation of the gel cost colour itself when left sitting in the water for long periods of time.

I initially wanted a Black hull/White stripe/Red bottom boat and while reading through the warranty documents before placing my order I noticed a paragraph dealing with the gel coat warranty. It expressly speaks to coloured bottom hulls and says there is no warranty for degrading colours which is common with boats wet slipped.

I called Cobalt and they told me the coloured hulls tend to "bloom" when left sitting in the water. So a red bottom might start looking washed out and pinkish. There is no warranty for that. That is what I am trying to pass on to the OP.
