Docking Lights LED?

Post by R6outboard »

Hello all. I have a boat on order and still have time to add items. Thinking about the docking lights? Anyhow know if they are LED?

Anyone swear by them. Worth the $450-500?

Thank you

I have the LED docking lights on my R7. If you boat at all at night they are a must have for getting back into your dock. If you don't then I wouldn't waste the money.

Welcome, and congratulations on you new order. I’m a sunset booze cruise kind of guy. I use mine all the time. There’s usually enough light to navigate at night around the docks at night, but they help a lot when pulling into the slip and onto the lift. Sometimes I use them to get somebody’s attention if I think they’re HUA and might not see me when it’s dark.

I just wish people would not use them when they are just driving around. They are called docking lights for a reason

I will continue to make passengers use their cell phone lights.

With that said we have been out on the lake after fireworks on a moon less night and I could have used forward lights that night as it was pitch black.

It’s illegal in Missouri. I’ve seen water patrol pull people over for using docking lights as head lights.

Table rock can get rather dark at night if there isn’t any moonlight to assist. You can’t build directly on the water due to it being a flood control lake. So I’ve had nights where the chart plotter has been the saving grace to get back to our marina.

Same here. But I'll tell you it's blinding and not sure how it's legal to have a million lights on you bow fishing boat. They blind the hell out of everything.

Yep...have a friend who is a Sheriff at Lake Tahoe. Pet peeve of his especially on 4th of July with the people running around with them on after the fireworks.

He gets on his PA constantly telling people to turn them off.

We have a main channel that goes into many smaller channels where my house is. I have a GPS waypoint marked directly in line with the buoys leading into it. Once you are lined up, it's easy. No need for spotlights or docking lights.

Using docking lights at night while underway is usually illegal because oncoming boats can't see your Red/Green Nav Lights.
I highly recommend getting them. Even if you don't know if you are going to go out at night, it is nice to have the option and they are VERY helpful when docking but most useless while underway.

I switched my bulbs to LED and it's amazing how much light they put out. It's equally amazing how the water or dark or aliens or whatever absorbs this light when out in open water. I'll flip mine on every now and then to just check the water for anything floating as I rarely go much faster than a high idle.
