Cobalt 220S swim platform fold down step

I am considering purchasing 2019 Cobalt 220S which has the integrated hinged fold down step off swim platform. I have only viewed the boat out of the water. Can someone tell me if they like the step and if easy to get in and out of the water?

The consensus seems positive on the forum regarding the swim step. Just don’t forget to raise it before motoring off. Others will chime in shortly.
Is this your first Cobalt?

I have an R5 with the step. We love it! It is also great for dogs! They can get out of the water on their own. Some people do find it hard to use because you kind of have to pull yourself up with your arms to get on it because there aren’t any steps lower in the water to get your feet on. Everyone that has used ours like it though. When we are tied up with other boats the stern of our boat seems to be the hang out spot because of it the large step and platform! It’s not hard to get 7 people on the back of our boat between the large sun pad, swim platform and step.

We really like ours as well. Yes, Snowman is right about a little pull to get up onto the step but I don’t find it hard. My three year old knocks it out of the park. Getting it up is pretty simple. Pull pin and let a wave bring it up; Pretty easy from there.

One of the reasons I bought a Cobalt was the patented swim step. Some of the people I was taking with me were having difficulty getting up the ladder on the old boat. This is much easier for them.It is also a great place to sit , half submerged, with a cold beverage right in your grasp and stereo controls right there. We loce it!

I saw that swim step and thought it was the coolest thing. I wish I could retrofit one to my boat. I have heard mixed reviews on it, but ladder can be hard on us older and larger folks. The swim step looks awesome.

We have a 262 with the step. It’s great. I’m 60 and kind of fat. As others have mentioned, it’s not hard to roll around in the water and get yourself up to sit on the step (it’s like a walrus at Seaworld getting up on a ledge to do tricks; watching YouTube videos on that helps you get the idea). From there, it’s easy to maneuver around and get back in the boat.
About half the time we tie up, we don’t drive but instead go with friends who have the regular type of ladder. I can make it up the ladder, but depending on the number of beers consumed, I’ll often either face-plant on the swimdeck cooler or cramp up, or both, for the delight of the spectators.
We were out last summer with some new people. They were old and big. They both announced that they were happy just sitting on the boat. I then showed them how the step worked and they got in and enjoyed the water. They were just leery about navigating a regular ladder.

Mark, I’m 73 & not skinny so I was apprehensive at first. My wife popped right up but I needed a few try’s to get it right. I approach the back then kind of float up horizontal face down then push arms down on the step and flip around at the same time. After a few try’s, it’s easier than a ladder. We love it now. You’ll love the boat. Incidentally, don’t tell anyone else on the forum, but I have the 280 v6 duoprop and love that, too!
