Hey all! Noob here, just got a new to me 2001 262 with the 8.1Gi (under 300 hours!)
I'm sure this has been discussed at nauseam but I did go through every page to see what people are running.
Obviously volvo doesn't offer the original 30w anymore and I had my local dealer box up everything to completely service the new rig and they gave me the volvo 10w-40 which apparently is their new go to for all motors but possibly not a good fit for the older 8.1s?
This is from their website which kind of makes me scratch my head since mines an 01 lol
"Volvo Penta states that the straight 30 weight oil and the new 10W-40 multi-grade can be used together with no issues. For gas engines newer than 2002."
Looks like a lot of you are now using the Mobil-1 15w-50 which is what I am likely leaning towards just wanted to get any and all feedback that I could from everyone.

Mobil 1 15W-50 all the way Jtothel. Check out this thread and this thread. We had your exact year model and engine. Ran the Mobil 1 for years. No issues at all. Changed it every year.

Man I definitely am too, cheap insurance. The verbiage from volvo saying for 2002 and newer is what is messing with me and making me question running the 10w-40 volvo oil

Thanks man! I read those but didn't know if the merc would be different than the volvo

Thanks man! I read those but didn't know if the merc would be different than the volvo

I also use BG MOA oil additive. It's great stuff. Watch a you tube vid on it. Too many dry stays in a boat. Heck mine can sit for more than a week or two before starting it up. That's harsh on bearings. So I use it in everything I own. No I don't work for them but I do sell the product at work only because I believe in it.

I had my Audi in for service this week. It was the first service that I paid for as the up to 50k complementary services are now over so I never had looked at the service invoice before. I noticed they used some BG additive for an addl. 25 or so dollars. What does it do? If it is that important, why isn't it an integral part of the oil itself?

Honestly they should be asking you to use it. Never make it an automatic charge. Is it MOA? I think we sell it for $13.00
It's a friction modifier.

I'm assuming it was in the estimate total.

The big money on this service was the brakes. Only got 15k out of the last set of front pads and rotors. Almost 2k for front pads/rotors and rear pads.

You know I get a little heart burn on some things. Not sure how some dealers get away with it.
Really you paid $156.71 labor for a oil change and Nothing more. I'll stand behind any dealer but. I would like to see that charge vs just charging the oil and filter and what they do diff between them. They didn't adjust anything on the susp. And they do a separate inspection anyways. So where do they go charging that much for what they just call a audi 1 service.
Second they should ask you if you want any additive added. Not just add it. Just bad practice. Plus it's double What we charge. It's good stuff I believe in but. Be fair. Makes me mad. Brakes should last much longer that. Not sure if they'd common with audi or not. I wouldn't think so. Price yes can be crazy.

Yes no menu pricing is tough but Audi is proprietary I. Service should you ever need goodwill help so pay the extortion.

The brakes don't worry me as much. I get those. Especially on a import.

The brakes don't worry me as much. I get those. Especially on a import.

Still sitting down? ...At least I had a 10% off coupon.

If I had the energy and time, I am sure I could replace the pads myself. Except, you need the VAGCOM software to release the rear calipers or E-brake I believe.

At least they use BG anti squeal too. Another 20 bucks a axle . Good stuff. This way when and if they squeal BG pays them.
Wow I need to switch manufacturers. I'm way too cheap. We charge 300 total frt and back labor. And same equipment. I need to go switch to the import world. Lol
Odd they didn't change the rotors on the rear though only the frt. That we would not have done.
I'm just glad you bring it to the dealer. Like Matt says loyalty can go a long ways when you need help when you're out of warranty. Just saying.
Glad they honor a coupon! Lots of times they will max that at $100 ours from Stellantis is $200max. Company ones are $100 though.

I forgot to add that they run it through their carwash when finished. That saves me $7.99 rather than going through the Costco carwash.
