I'm working on the planning for upgrading from the radio the boat came with (Sony CDX-GT42IPW) to a Fusion MS-RA210. The boat has 4 Sony speakers (4-ohm) that wire directly to the head unit (front right, front left, rear right, rear left). I'll be keeping these until the Admiral's finance committee approves replacement.

The 210 also has four speaker outputs but they're divided into zones 1 and 2. I'm going to wire the left front/rear and right front/rear in parallel and attach them as zone 1 left and right, and reserve zone 2 for the transom speakers I'm planning for. This will drop my total impedance to 2ohms so I'm looking at power resistors - any recommendations? Or should I just wire these up in series and forget about it?

The bow seats in my 272 have headphone jacks. There's a TRS plug flopping around in my console which I presume feeds these plugs. I haven't dissected the system out beyond that, but I'm wondering if it's even worth trying to resurrect that functionality? If I were to want to, how might I go about it?


With any luck I'll get this done next week and get her splashed into her new slip shortly thereafter. I'm going to go ahead and run/wire things for zone 2 while I'm in the console - I don't want to have to do this twice, but I want to do it the right way.

Finally got around to doing this stereo upgrade.. Wired the left and right side in series and it worked fine. Didn't get around to running the wires I wanted for a future zone 2, but a previous owner had a cd changer in the locker with an RCA cable run, so I did atleast put that in place. Perhaps a future summer will allow me to put an amp there.

Old headunit.. New head unit.. with USB and aux-in nearby. Didn't have a great place to put this additional plug, but this will do. Had to cut a machine screw down and secure it with sealant to allow the glove box to close. Hidden shame...
