New-to-me 2004 cobalt 240. Original snap in carpet looks great but the rubber backing is disintegrating and sticking to the floor. I’ve got Sea Dek install quote from local place for about $2,200. Carpet is less, but not sure how much less. Love the faux teal look in either Sea Dek or snap-in carpet, but looking for ideas.

We do have active German shepherd and small Malti-poo. Toenails are always trimmed, but still concerned about punctures/tears. Also general concerns with getting dirty, stains, keeping clean.

Thoughts? Pics? Suggestions?

With dogs I would be inclined to spray the rubber carpet backing with rubberized undercoating to buy a few years until they are older and more mellow.

Ok so that’s something I’m not familiar with. Is that a service that the local marine upholstery place might offer?

Yep rubberized roof coating is What I used.

This is a DIY project. You can basically find any rubbery coating and spray or roll on. The goal is just to lock the existing rubber mat into place. I just have used 3M rubberized undercoating on other projects and know how it behaves so thats why I would use it.

Dustinm, the undercoating I’m familiar with is really nasty stuff when wet. And I’m not sure it won’t reverse when it gets warm?

I wouldn’t want the carpet to get stuck to the floor after a day in the sun.

If I was going to do this, I might use a two part bed liner kit . Something I know won’t reverse, soften or stick once it is cured. Raptor Liner is one I have sprayed before.

Yep I've used it on 2 of my cobalt carpets as well. I've never seen any reverse effects from what I used also.

I should have used black though. Lesson learned on the first one.

I’ll check on the rubberized coating option today. Can’t hurt to try it before installing new. The carpet itself is in pretty good shape, especially for its age.

I have a 2016 R7 with the seagrass flooring. (The boat is down at the lake and I want to bring the supplies with me). Does anyone know what snaps are on those, are the parts on the hull screwed in. I would like to replace several that no longer work and want to get whatever I need before I head down to the lake next weekend. Thanks Tom.

Hey Tom. So glad you found us! Any pics of your R7?

They should be your standard stainless snaps (3/8” or 1/2” if I recall). There is a small flange tool you’ll need and make sure the snap shank is not too short which should not be much of an issue with sea grass vs thicker carpeting. The male end is screwed into the fiberglass. You should get an answer from another R series owner shortly.

I replace snap in carpet on my first boat.
The snaps on the flooring were screw in.
I bought a tool to put the snaps on the carpet. Paid probably $80. You might look at places that are not selling boating equipment to get them cheaper. Be careful to get everything lined up correctly.
