First Cobalt - 1976 19' CD

We live on Breton Bay in St Mary's County, MD. Kayaking is nice but tiring at our ages. So, we picked up a 1976 Cobalt 19' CD. Lived in fresh water all its life until we moved it to here from NC. Ford 235hp w/ OMC outrdive (400 hours on the engine). Had some fixing done and the bottom painted, of course. Yes, it's an old boat but we're old (we're in our 70s). Sweet looking boat and, thus far, sweet riding.

I'd be interested in finding other Cobalt old timers (boats, if not the owners). Need to figure out a couple things about the boat and, well, not many 'bolters around here.

Whoa.... looks like a beautiful 19CD!!! I personally have a 78 and well, kind of obsessed lol. There is a strong following of us classic owners, some of which are on Cobalt Chat. But also on the Facebook group. Check out youclassiccobalt.com for more info and our annual event on Table Rock Lake. This will be our third year for the Loren J Feldner Cobalt Classic.

Beautiful!!. Love the name! Yes, there are a few of us who are obsessed. My ‘76 19 CD Has the old Merc 302ci in it. Of all the boats I spend time in, it’s by far my favorite.

Lockey mentioned YourClassicCobalt.com - that’s a resource. You can contact them via the website. But also ask any questions here! Won’t be long and Lockey will be trying to convince you to convert to a Merc! Haha.

Thanks all for your welcome messages. Gramp Camp, Too is pretty indeed but, alas, on the 4th time out, she broke - well, the OMC outdrive broke. Appears to be either or both of the hydraulic trim and tilt motor. So, back in our driveway on our pad awaiting the boat doctor - who I hope gets here soon.

If any of you know a source for OMC parts, please share. I have a skilled mechanic knowledgeable about OMC drives. Really love the boat but am right now frustrated by the costs of putting her right. Paid $2,900 for boat and trailer and added $4,600 into repairs and hull painting before this latest.

Oh boy... here comes the challenge, finding the elusive OMC drive parts. I would start by checking craigslist and ebay for some second hand parts as they will be much cheaper. Also call around to some local marinas and see if they have anything laying around. There are a couple of online sites that still have some NOS parts and refurbished drives, but its VERY expensive.

I know it sounds crazy, but if you plan on keeping the OMC setup going, you might want to buy a second parts boat that you can keep on hand as inventory. typically people are giving away OMC boats for free that are not working or rotted out.
