Hi Everyone - I bought this 2006 246 and put it in the water about a month ago. Also recently purchased a Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 73sv with GT56UHD-TM Transducer. I'd like to remove the GPS unit pictured above and install the Garmin. The unit is not a fish finder so I'm wondering what this is on the transom. It's not a transponder as it's thin. Any advice on what it is, if it can be removed?

Looks like the tube that measures your speed.

K1114 is correct. Volvo uses an external pitot tube to measure speed. Merc uses one built into the bottom of the outdrive.

Thank you!
Is the thin cord also related to the speedometer?

.
The thin cord running parallel on the transom is attached to a small round metal piece that records the water temperature.

Given the picture above, any advice on the location where I should mount the Garmin transducer? Based on my research, it should be located exactly where the speed pitot tube is currently installed.

Yea you would think by now they would make the transducers small. Not a ft long that sticks out like a sore well thumb.

Great!

Hi, I'm new here. I heard a lot about it - that Cobalts are not for fishing. I hope that this is a part of the joke or there are some objective reasons? Appreciate Garmin products, btw

Hey, Luke11! Why did you choose especially this model of a fish finder? Heard a lot about Garmin products, they are perfect. Can you advice budget finder similar to
this one?
All the best
