Anyone with Surf seen these error codes. Surf mode is fully disabled due to them, frustrating.

Have you updated your garmins yet. When I got my boat they didn’t have the latest software on them. I had a few minor issues (nothing relating to surf mode) but after updating everything was great.

Haven’t tried updating Garmins. Good suggestion, I’ll try that.

DSThomas - Active Captain indicates I need to install SD card before I can upgrade, is that correct? If so, any idea how to access the SD card slot? Appreciate any help.

I just updated my R6 Surf. Unlike the Garmin screens that were in my R5 which had the sd card in the front behind a little door, the newer screens have them in the rear. It was a little tricky getting to them. You have to lay on your back under the steering wheel and then use a flashlight to locate the screens. Here is a link to a picture showing the location of the car slot

It only takes one so card in one of the units to update both screens.

FWIW, mine came with a card, but you have to connect to the screen on the right side of the dash...I connected to the left and got the error to add the card, but connected to the right and it updated them both. Boot up time was cut in half with the latest update FWIW...

T - Thanks for the direction. Love the seamless look of the 8600, but doesn’t make very easy to access.
R - Turns out mine came with card as well. Was able to upgrade the Garmins this morning. Thanks for the response.
It’s still throwing error codes (Loss of GPS & Loss of Engine Data Metric). It’s going to dealer tomorrow. Really hope it easy fix so I’m not without a boat or surfing.

I'm no mechanic, but sounds like it'll be something simple let us know how it turns out. Good luck!

Hi Sierra. I've only seen loss of GPS once on my R6 Surf and it was short lived. System acquired the signal and was back up and running. I have not updated my Garmins at all and have not had any issues getting into Surf mode and using the Surf Gates. Given my system is working, not sure I want to update the Garmins either unless I need to at some point.
90 hours and climbing so far on this new boat and a good number of those learning to Surf with the family. Hope you get yours sorted out soon so that you can enjoy yours.
