I have a 2021 R5 with the standard stereo package with the 4xcockit and 2xbow speakers running off the internal amplifier of the PMX-8BB. Looking to add 2 pair of tower speakers with an external amp. I noticed the PMX-8BB is located under the floor in front of the head. Is this where the power amps is installed on the OEM builds? Seams odd but can't imagine placing it too far from the head unit.

My OEM amps are mounted to a panel in the drivers side bow flip up seat storage area.

Thanks, makes sense. Is the remote head unit (PMX-8BB) there too?

I think mine are on the opposite side. Seems like I noticed them when wife cleaning seats last weekend.
I guess R3 different because of no head available.

Can the amps be upgraded in a relatively plug and play manner? our 2019 R7 has the base audio and I wouldn't mind more punch.

The standard sound uses the black boxes internal amp which is 25 W X 4 @ 4 Ohms RMS. Probably well under the power capability of the 6 speakers. An external amp would definitely give you more punch. The problem is that the standard sound wiring is brought to the Molex connector on the black box. You would have to disconnect the speaker wires from the connector and bring them over to the external amp. The problem is that the black box is located just aft of the head compartment (at least that is where it is on my R5). Probably not the most ideal location to install the amp. With that said probably not a plug and play solution.
