R5 SeaDek Install

Added SeaDek this week. Terra over Espresso, which are each close to the OEM carpet. Wish I could take credit for the install!
Classic teak look which I much prefer in comparison to the geometric pattern on the even series boats. Between carpet and Sea Grass underfoot, not too hot in the sun last couple of days, and easy to rinse out.
Wish I would have done this years ago!

Who did the install? How much was the seadek and how much was installation?

Looks outstanding. I really like how you added it under the swim platform as well!

Got it out of St Augustine. SeaDek is based in Rockledge, FL near Cape Canaveral.
Quote was $2,350 including tax and install which also included the head compartment. Didn’t breakout the install because they offer a
3 yr warranty on product and labor if they install.
Got a 10% boat show discount, so $2,115.

Sof-Trac Mat on the R6 will run about $3,150 before tax for the cockpit, head, swim platform, including step, and gunnels.

Looks like this one is the closest to you in Southern Cal.

Looks very nice. I have a 2015 R5 with original factory snap-in carpet. I'd like to replace this with SeaDek. When your SeaDek was installed did you remove your snaps from the deck and calk the holes prior to the installation of the SeaDek? Also I've been searching for an R5 template but to date have been unable to find one. Did SeaDek have a template already available on file for your R5, or did they have to create s new one for your install? What would be the best way to get access to this template:? Can you provide me with the name and contact info of the person at SeaDek you worked with? Thank you.

Looks great. Did you remove the snaps and fill in the holes?

Castaway Customs out of St Augustine. I worked with John at the JAX Boat Show this past Spring.
The whole crew has been great to work with!
johnp@castawaycustoms.com or www.castawaycustoms.com.
The installer removed the snaps in about 10 minutes and filled a bit. I’m not sure how much fill was used, couldn’t have taken more than a dab. Not much of a hole to fill, but there was some deck rash from the back of the snaps. All of the snap holes and deck rash were covered with the 6mm SeaDek except for a couple of snaps just ahead of the helm. They’re fabricating a new section to cover those. The non-skid was completely covered with the exception of small areas between SeaDek sections.
Castaway did have a template which gave me a ballpark quote. They came to the lift and took laser measurements and the quotes matched up, but they got an exact match to the deckplan, which I would highly recommend.
Three of my boating buds, one with a 2014 Cobalt 220S, have seen ours and are already planning their SeaDek installs.

Was all of the no slip tread ground off to do this install?

The non-skid was not ground off, the SeaDek was installed directly on the existing deck. I imagine that would have been a very labor intensive, and expensive, job to grind smooth. Not sure if the factory Sof-Trac install is on a smooth surface, but you would probably get better adhesion with the deck completely smooth.
SeaDek now has a 3 year warranty which includes adhesion. That’s what ultimately clinched the deal for me.

I like the detail around the engine box. I can not believe Cobalt thought it was acceptable to just use a single piece of carpet or seagrass that requires unsnapping to just open the engine compartment. Bothered me so much that I had a local upholstery company take the piece and modify it like the SeaDek pict. So much for attention to detail.

I am with you, our piece of sea grass for the walkthrough just lays in a storage compartment because I don’t want to unsnap it every time I open the engine hatch. My biggest complaint is that I have to unsnap the piece of sea grass that covers the ski locker. It’s dumb why they didn’t just make a smaller piece that is just the size of the locker door.

That is nothing new. They screwed up the carpet since 2007 on the 222. Some engineer didn't like the looks of the separate pieces so this is what we get to live with.
