200s Guages

Post by pjgletow »

Just clocked 40 hours on my 2017 200S 240DP. Noticing that my trim guage is useful with the digital read out, but the actual needle in the guage doesn't
move enough to let me know where trim is actually at. Also noticing that my air/water temp guage is readinf at least 10 degrees higher than actual. Also finding that oil pressure registers about 55-56 at 3000 to 3500 RPM. Anyone out there having a similar issue. Dealer is very cooperative but I'm curious if this is normal for these guages. My Cobalt 226 did not have these apparent issues. Comments anyone?

Hey congrats on your purchase pigletow!

Any pics?

Have no experience with the 2017 models so I cannot help you. Good to hear your dealer is working with ya' though.

We want pics!

Post moved from forum support to general.

My initial guess is that they are separate issues, but I've heard where one bad device on a NEMA network can mess up the others too. It's not common, but the dealer will certainly fix it. It would be good to hear what the resolution is.

My 2003 263 is experiencing similar problems with the trim, water temp and depth gauges all giving false readings. I called my dealer, they informed me that my particular year Cobalt used a sensor that is no longer available. They couldn't help me! They want $169 to "diagnose EACH item. I had read a blog on the chats last year that said it could be the through hull sensor is loose? Anyone familiar with that?

Hey bb263... welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

The trim gauge receives its reading from potentiometers located on your outdrive rams. You can adjust them by loosening the screws and rotating the plastic piece left or right. Check behind the gauge as well and make sure all screws are tight making sure it’s grounded and powered properly.

The depth and air gauge are separate from the trim gauge issue. If it’s blinking it’s most likely out of fluid in the transducer located on the hull bottom just in front of the engine starboard side. Unscrew and fill with antifreeze.
If it’s not powered at all then it’s an electrical issue. Check behind the gauge for tight connections. Be sure to check all circuit breakers too.

Any pics?

Again welcome aboard mate!
