Engine Hatch gas shocks 2005 Cobalt 220

I own a 2005 Cobalt 220. I'm trying to replace the engine hatch gas shocks. I've located a place that has them in stock, but only have shocks rated for 50 lbs and 100 lbs. Cobalt says the OEM shocks were 70 lbs. The supplier doesn't offer shocks rated for 70 lbs. Would there be any issues/ problems putting in the shocks rated for 100 lbs? I don't really want the hatch to pop up while underway. Any suggestions? Thanks. Jack

Yep exactly what could happen if you go larger. But I will say that engine cover is heavy.I was thinking of going higher on mine. I'm sure I wouldn't put oem ones on.I'm cheap and I would find a exact replacement for this item.

Hey jackmowers, welcome to the Cobalt chat forum. So glad you found us!!!
I have only owned boats with electric engine hatches so I'm not much help here.
The best I can do is offer advice for the hatch rams ABOVE the engine hatch which utilize the gas shocks. We just replaced those. Sorry.

Love the 220 though. Do you have any pictures of that beauty?

I think I found the exact match for both at West Marine:

I realize this string is on the 2005 220 but I can't find anything on the 2007 212. Does anyone know where online I could find the spec's for the ski locker for a Cobalt 212 2007?

Do you have access to it at all. The numbers are on the strut. I've replace a bunch of mine. Take a picture of the numbers.

Yes I do have access to the boat but the numbers/printing has worn off the struts.
