Mooring Cover option for 232 or 242 on A Lift

My first post, please be gentle! Ok, I have an 08 242 and recently bought a covered slip with a lift. This is my 3rd Cobalt and a life long customer. The 242 has the factory stainless steel Tower with sun shade and the usual Cobalt extended swim platform The snap down covers look great but don't cover enough when the boat is on the lift. I'm ISO an exact fit westland mooring cover. I have a question about putting the mooring cover on when access from the dock is via the port side of the boat along with the aft swim platform. No access is possible from the starboard side.

Here's the issue.. The westland mooring cover options include the tower factory cut outs for the Tower. The mooring cover is also available to either include the extended swim platform or not to include the length of the swim platform. Considering it's on a lift, is it practical to secure the mooring cover on the boat while standing on the swim platform and then as your depart the swim platform to the dock, to fold and lay/ secure the swim platform cover part as you then step off to the dock? OR should I not get the extended platform version mooring cover and therefore not have the benefit of the mooring cover to also cover the swim platform? I do have Sea Deck on the swim platform which may fade, otherwise I wouldn't care.

Have any of you had any experience putting the mooring cover on with the extended platform coverage while the boat is on the lift? I really appreciate any comments any of you can share.

I think I would go without the swim platform covered. Or back the boat in and you won’t have a problem at all bc it will be Under the roof.

Keeping things out of the sun is good, but not if it makes it harder to boat.

I am not familiar with the Westland cover by my Commercial Sewing cover has 2 large zippered openings that you can have open as you put the cover on and as you work your way off the boat you can simply zip them closed as you step off. Notice the flap and zipper on the second and third pictures of the rear of the boat. Each side opens separately and has double zippers so they will zip either way as you work your way off the water. Definitely look into the Outer Armor cover by Commercial Sewing and see if they make a cover for your model. This would definitely be able to be installed on a lift. If you are going to cover your boat you might as well cover ALL of it!

Westland is who made the covers for cobalt in your year time frame. I have the same cover. I tried to use it 1 time when the boat sat in the water. It sucked to get on without being able to walk around the cover. Im sure with practice and time you will get it. It fits tight under the swim platform and again well be a pain. That being said I would want my platform to be convered.

I have the Westland cover with tower made for our 263. It does not cover our extra extended swim platform but I do not have the Sea Dek for the reason you mentioned. It would be difficult to put that cover on if it covered the extra swim platform...especially on a lift or in a slip. I like Snowman's cover with the zipper option.

What type of lift? Walk ways?
Just doing the last exit corner was how I did on our 282.

Pre determined tension on outside ( guessing) to allow the other to be the last side as the cord runs around it.
You lightly step on the loose platform part before securing the last side

I have the Cobalt "Westland" cover on my 05. It does have the cutouts on for the tower, but no extended swim platform. I too am on a lift but with little to no port side access. I have never had a problem putting it on or taking it off. I do most of the work from inside the boat until the final corner on the starboard stern. It literally takes 5 minutes to put the cover on.

I've decided to go with the Westland with Factory Tower cut out but w/o swim platform covered... mainly from the majority of people telling me it's difficult to put on the Swim platform while on a lift. I did find what I believe will be a very close match fabric on ebay that you can purchase by the yard and I'm going to have a local canvas shop make me a swim platform cover and finish the edges, put maybe 4 eyelets that I can use a couple of bungie cords to keep it in place to protect from fading. I know I couldn't tow it with the covering on the swim platform but I don't tow it but twice a year, about 1/4 of a mile and don't have it covered at all for that short journey. Thanks again..
