Considering 282

Hello all, thanks in advance for the information.
I currently own a 2018 Chap 257SSX that should sell Tuesday.
I have run the gamut on boats as a replacement. I have looked at a 2016 31’ Chap, R7’s and a 2005 282. I think I have decided that I do not want a loan, which I can do with the 282 so it is at the top of my list right now. What’s the general consensus on the 282? Good platform? Good ride, run well? Any major concerns?
Details on the boat I am looking at: Twin 6.2L Mercs, 400 hrs, a couple of vinyl tears (appear to be from something sharp, not seams tearing) otherwise the boat appears to be in good shape. It has the SS arch.
Anyone have any idea what the 282 with arch and twin 6.2s will weight?

says dry weight for twin engine 2005 282 (unspecified which engine size) is 7,750 lbs.
Probably does not include an arch.

So glad you found us lees23!
The 282 is a phenomenal hull....and yes you are close to pushing 9000 pounds with an arch, fluids and twins. Do you have the extra extended swim platform? That will add weight as well but it’s a fantastic option. Also be advised that the beam on this boat exceeds the legal 8'6" trailering limit in most states.
400 hours is very low for that year. Normally consider 50 hours a year as an average for a boat owner. (similar to 12000 miles a year for a car).
You will not be able to source new interior cushions from Cobalt as they discontinue supporting them after seven years. Do you know of a good vinyl repair shop? That will help immensely.
Post a pic or two when you get a chance. CmattJ is our resident 282 expert. He may chime in shortly as well.

Awesome. Thanks you for the reply. There is a vinyl repair shop near our lake (Grand Lake o’ the cherokees in Oklahoma). I am okay with the fact that the seats won’t look perfect.
The boat does have the extended swim platform, which is a huge bonus for us.
I would assume with the twin 6.2s the boat should be a 55+ mph boat, right? Not looking for a hot rod, but I will be nice knowing it’s capable.

And yes, with 700 HP you should be in the 60’s which is quite fast on the water. What pitch props are you running? That’s a quick indicator of a boat’s top speed assuming your WOT is in the recommended range. The Merc props have the pitch stamped on them.
If you want to know your boat’s theoretical top speed based on your hull, enter your values into
this boat speed calculator website. Yours comes out to 63-65 as a rough estimate.

I went and saw the boat today. It’s overall good shape, needs a little work on the interior and a good cut/polish/wax. The owner and I came to an agreement and as long as everything checks out in a survey, I will be a 282 owner.

I was pretty excited to discover that the boat has a heater. I had a heater in my Malibu that I loved. So nice for evening rides.

Yes, the heater is the bomb on those fall cruises. Keeps our toes warm.

How hard is it to pull the fridge in the walk through out, and what is behind it?? It looks like it is connected to the metal trim piece. If you pull it all out is it raw fiberglass? Would like to make that an area to put a cooler or lake bag. Not a ton of floor space in for a 29’/9’ beam boat.
