New Member in Seattle Area
I am new to the forum and happy to find such an active place. I have a deposit down on a 2004 262 from a local dealer. Currently planning to close the deal and pick up in March if the current owner's new R8 comes in. This will be my first boat. It drove very well during sea trial and has 379 hours. It has all of the cushions, but does need the cup holders updated and radio replaced. Everything looks original. Opening the rear engine cover makes a creaking sound and it appears the center walk-through rubs a bit. I am not sure if this is an cause for concern. The dealer told me that the rear could be shimmed, but would require removal of the cover and didn't sound cheap. Has anyone else heard of this issue? The stitching on the seating has a few splits in it, but I have seen that is common in boats that age. The paint looks like it's in good shape, just needs a wax.
Looking forward to learning more from everyone on here.

Hey PB. So glad you found us!….and yeeeeehawwww. Another 260 series owner.
All of those items mentioned can be fixed. Surprised your 2004 has plastic cup holders. I thought Cobalt went to stainless steel in 2004.
I wouldn’t remove the engine hatch. That’s expensive. A little creaking is normal but not an excessive amount. Helm looks great and such low hours. Nice find.
You’re going to love that model. We really enjoyed ours.
Oh and the extra extended swim platform is the bomb.
Again welcome aboard mate!

Thanks so much! Glad to hear the creaking is common, as it was the only concerning item I noticed. The seating will need a few spots repaired, but everything mechanically was great. Hopefully I will be able to share the close of the sale and more info when out on the water!

The most difficult challenge is repairing the vinyl..especially the wrap around pieces. Cobalt doesn’t carry any inventory after seven years.
Post some more pics when u can.

Welcome to the forum and congrats and securing a great boat. Agree, sounds like minor issues for a 2004. Signing-off from across the lake (Maydebauer Bay).....hope to see you around.

Re: New Member in Seattle Area
I have some updated info on my 2004 262 purchase. The seller's new R8 surf is delayed, so I am not able to take delivery until possibly May. I just looked at a 2007 242 that was in great condition from the same dealer. It had many upgraded options, sink console in the head, heaters, premium sound, 8.1 Gi/DP. The 242 interior was in better condition and had 370hrs, which was similar to the 262. I haven't yet gotten to test drive the 242 and it will be about $15k more, but it will be available within weeks. I'm curious what others think about the comparison between the 242 and 262. I plan to spend most of time around Seattle, Lake, WA but may trailer to other lakes in Washington or Idaho a couple times a year.
