Hello All!
New to the forum and Cobalt boats. Just purchased and prestine 2002 226 bowrider here in Texas. Just took the boat into the shop to have a new impeller replaced plus a minor tuneup. Shop just called and said the high and low pressuer fuel pumps are making noise and need to be replaced. I was told that the engine needs to be pulled to replace them. Has anyone on the forum with this boat had to replace the fuel pumps and does the motor need to be replaced. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. I have a hard time believing that Cobalt would design a boat where the engine needs to be removed to replace a fuel pump. But then again?

Its more like Mercury design a engine that you would have up remove to change a fuel pump.
Get a new tech I guess.

Hey OB...so glad you found us.
We've pulled our engine in our 263 but not for what you mentioned. Is the marine tech replacing something else besides the pumps?
Any pics of the 226?
And welcome aboard mate.

Ya. I haven’t heard of that. How tight is that engine packed in there? Room to work?

My 2001 206 with the VP 5.7L Gsi engine had two fuel pumps mounted on a bracket with the fuel filter. They whine a lot, which some say is a warning that they, most likely the high pressure pump, are about to fail. Mine eventually did. Ordered one on line ($800ish) and replaced it in my driveway. There were 4 easy to access bolts, a molex connector or two, and the fuel line connections to deal with. I don't think it took me a half hour. It's an easy repair if you have a similar setup to what I had. There's an online source of rebuilt pumps you can find if you search it.

I think the engine isnt a tight fit at all. I'll try taking some pics tomarrow. My mechanice said the fuel filter is mounted on the underside of the engine.

Yea I think the motor mounts get in the way that's about it.
