Change fluids before winterization???

Post by anothershotinthehead »

Hello Cobalt friends, My dealer recommends changing all the fluids etc before winter storage, whereas my marina said you can wait till spring since the boat is only 2 years old with 80 hours. Oil was changed last year at 50 hours before winter storage (at dealership). Will be storing at marina this year. Everything I have read online says do it now. What say you my leaned friends? Merc 250 Verado OB.

I rather store my engine with fresh oil.

That and you are pretty much ready to go in the spring.

I've done it both ways. Never by a dealer tho. If the dealer does your maintenances then by all means store it with fresh oil and be ready to go in the spring

Best to replace both engine oil and gearlube before winter. Not only are you removing corrosives and grime sooner but gives you 6 months notice if you have a problem.

I'll 3rd that recommendation. Although I've been guilty of NOT following that recommendation in the past with one of my boats.
