Ordered R4 Surf

Just ordered an r4 surf today (first cobalt). Couple of questions, dealer was able to do 20% off msrp, that a typical discount for 2023 models?
Also still not sure on 10” garmen screens or windlass. We use boat on a small lake (800 acres), so chart not important but we are usually on the water for 4-6 hours and anchor multiple times throughout the day. But the dash looks kinda silly with the small screens (the small screens looked better on the r3).
It’s going to be a long winter waiting…

Thanks! Went with 350. Lake we are at is 3500’ above sea level and wasn’t sure if 350 or 380 would be the right choice. We typically have 4 adults and 4 kids when we go out.
Can’t wait. They put in order now he is expecting delivery in February

Congrats! You will love your new R4 Surf. 20% off is a great deal - about what I got in 2018 for our R5 Surf but certainly not possible right now here in MN.

I say go for the larger screens... I love them. They do look better, and I think with all you can do with them as far as the video camera, controlling the stereo, having multiple surf profiles, controlling the RGB lighting, I think you'll be glad you got them. We don't anchor out much and I don't care for the looks of the windless but I have a friend that has it and loves it. I have heard if you plan to trailer your boat a bunch the windless can be a pain when loading. But I don't have personal experience with it.

Windlass can be a pita putting boat on trailer and I just don't understand why anyone would want one with an open bow.

Welcome. 350 should be fine. I didn't know windlass was an option on the smaller R's.

How deep are you usually anchoring, and what type of bottom? I love the windlass and if your trailer is built for it, doesn't change the loading/unloading IMO. It's one of those things you don't want to add later....

Anchor windlass is a great option but you will need to add a bow stop for the trailer so the winch and stand don't interfere with the anchor.

I'm thinking if he orderers the windlass the trailer will be built with the windlass option. May be worth double checking with the dealer..

We usually anchor in about 25’ or so. It’s not easy to add after the fact…

I have three opinions on this: Windlass, windlass, windlass.
Compare the hassles and dangers of manual anchoring with: Push a button.
Be sure to have sufficient rode for you typical depth (about 75'), and the right anchor for your typical bottom.

Possible change of plans, my wife saw an R6 surf instock at the dealer and wants to go R6 instead. My only concern is our house has only boat ramp access or mooring at a bouy (we are on the waitlist).
My concern is the R6 is going to be too big and cumbersome to launch and pull out of the water 2-3 times a week. The ramp is a short drive (less than 1/4 mile) so the drive is minimal, but still have to launch, dock, park the trailer, etc each time (we do that now with our 23' yamaha).
Is the size difference between the R4 and R6 small enough to not make too much of a difference? Also the lake is only 1.5 sq miles dont want to get too big of a boat for the location.

We have an R8S that we trailer back and forth to the lake. We are up there once or twice a week. Launching and retrieving for us isn't a big deal and only takes us about 2 minutes to prep the boat and launch it and maybe another 15 or so for retrieval (that includes putting on the transom straps, turning off batteries, pulling the drain plug and a quick wipe on the gelcoat). Once you get a system down and everyone knows their part it really is pretty easy. Our lake doesn't have a busy ramp so we don't ever have to wait to use it. Also our trailer is very easy to load onto. The last thing is my wife is very good at backing our trailer. If you have a busy ramp, a trailer that's difficult to load and a boating partner that doesn't know how to back a trailer then you may want to reconsider. Anyway I guess my point is that if we can do it with an R8S you shouldn't have any trouble with an R6S.

Thanks for the info. Changed the order yesterday to an R6 surf. I think the extra space will be great when the kids get older. I have changed options and colors so many times I feel bad for the dealer
