Hi guys - I'm trying to remove all the "fuzz" from my speaker covers, wondered if anyone had ever found an easy way to do this. As you can see in the pictures I finally got it off the surface using sandpaper, but the holes are mostly filled with the stuff and I want it gone.
Also - I don't want to order a new set, which I've done before. As soon as you run a scrub brush across a seat or slide your jeans along it, the fuzz comes off and it looks like a big scar with the dark brown plastic showing through the light brown fuzz. I'm thinking the only solution is to leave it bare dark brown plastic but first I gotta get this fuzz off. And if anyone has any suggestions for a paint or other coating that would prove more durable than the fuzz and give me some color choices, that would be great.

Maybe try blowing it off with compressed air?

My speaker covers aren't like that. Is it fraying fiberglass, or is simply collecting lint from around the speaker?

Can you clean it out with a scrub brush under some running water? I think spray painting it would probably fill some of the rough edges and reduce the amount of lint it collects, and maybe keep it from fraying if that's part of the issue.

There's always the option of wrapping it in speaker grill cloth too - something like https://www.parts-express.com/speaker-c ... oth-fabric

I did that project a few years ago and ended up using acetone which helped a lot. I could not get it all off so I ended up wrapping them with speaker fabric.

Thanks kb - that sounds like the solution I'm after. The "fuzz" is obviously sprayed onto the covers after they're coated in an adhesive spray. The acetone might dissolve the adhesive.

Acetone, gloves, and a scrub brush. Good luck with your project!

Update - my wife bought a tool (brand name" homeleader") from Amazon to take those little balls off her sweaters.

Good idea.
We also use that to freshen up worn looking seatbelts in cars.

SAB220 - Thanks, that's a very good idea. It would probably remove all the fuzz from the surface, but I would still have to get it out of all those little holes. Since it's entirely cosmetic and doesn't impact the audio, I decided to follow kbloom72's advice and just cover them with speaker cloth. Found a great contrasting color and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hey guys - I finally fixed the problem by sanding off the surface fuzz only, and wrapping the covers with speaker cloth. Came out great, would highly recommend the process - simple grill cloth from Amazon and Elmer's Spray Glue.

Nice! Looks like it just came from the factory, only better!
