Anyone using a Sharrow prop? ($5k -- Yikes!) If so, what's your experience with it?

Yikes is right. So would a Bravo 3 with counter rotating props end up costing $10,000?

I've been seeing a lot of marketing for them recently. Seems the market may be commercial because that the cost of the props, your rate of return for any performance and fuel efficiency is very long.

"your rate of return"

Back-of-the-envelope calculation: 10 years. (Yikes, again!)

Yeah no kidding. Once the prop pays for itself you'll be ready for a new boat!

And on their website they state that the performance gains will be greater for the higher output engines. So if you don't have a HO, you may not even get that 1-2 MPH you're looking for. What's the rule of thumb? $1k for every MPH gained?

Id be willing to test them if anyone wants to pony up the $$$$ lol. They look cool but their cost is crazy. My guess is they will price their way right out of business. Could you imagine hitting something with $10,000 of props hanging off the back of your boat. Ill stick with my tried and true 28 pitch labbed finished props thank you

I'm thinking it might be like a lot of products. The price is higher to start with because of the start-up costs. Maybe they're looking for the people who like to always be on the forefront of new products to pay the initial costs and then lower pricing to stay competitive.

My understanding is it's really geared towards midrange RPM and cruising speed gains.

Faster planing time and more MPH in the cruise range. Idea of getting best fuel economy possible.

Target audience I believe is charter boats.

There is little to no gain in terms of high speed performance.

That’s their selling point. I think the math can work out for an avid offshore fisherman that puts 1,000+ hours on their boat each year. They claim 30% or more improvement in fuel economy at typical cruising speeds around 4,000 rpm. For someone spending $500k-$800k on a 32-35 footer, $15k extra for props is not a reach.

Looks like they are finally (almost) available for boats like ours.

Only $9K!

Someone here should get a set and report back to the group. :D

It looks like they've got a few patents in-hand, with three issued utility patents and more pending. The first two expire in 2033, which is probably the first time we'll see affordable copycats and widespread adoption of this kind of thing. They also have a bunch of design patents, which seems fishy if the shape is primarily functional as the utility patent applications seem to assert. Boy I have thought about these for our Cobalt A-28, but pretty sure the wife would kill me if I paid that much for these!
