2019 Cobalt R35 Throttle Location

Im a little concerned about the throttle location on the R 35, while leaning out to place bumper or just to look over the side as I'm pulling into a slip or docking I've bumped the throttle with my hip on several occasions causing the boat to pop out of docking mode and throttle forward. I know it seems idiotic but while docking you are concerned with your sorroundings and in a tight area where this is not an optimal situation. Does anyone have any tips to keep from doing this, or am I missing something with the programming of the throttle that could help prevent this?

Hey pamps. So glad you found us.

That can certainly be quite dangerous. Multiple YouTube vids have shown that exact situation which doesn’t end well.
We have the older style Merc throttle that is safer with the squeeze trigger.

Hopefully some here will give you their techniques & suggestions for your model.

And welcome aboard mate.

Similar set up on my R30. Enabling the joystick disables the throttles, and during docking and close quarter maneuvers I’m using the stick. Still have to avoid bumping the joystick but the inputs are far less aggressive than the throttles if it happens. I have learned to let my crew deal with lines and bumpers and I stay seated whenever possible.
