220 Fender "Silos" - Options?

Hi All,

I saw the other thread about the 98 220 fender holders which got me to thinking, but didnt want to hijack that one. I have a 2007 220 and the Fender "Silos" have such a small diameter, they are pretty useless. The boat protection offered by the smaller fenders that fit would be minimal, so I would assume other owners use larger sizes and toss them in the seat lockers like I do.

Has anyone come up with a good alternative use for these? I am sure storage for empties tops the list, but curious about any novel ideas. The other thread had shown a sock type piece that was a DIY project. The hatch and latch are permanent but can the tube be removed and replaced? With the number of Cobalts in the 200 - 240 range that use the same setup, maybe there is an aftermarket piece or a simple DIY?

Enjoy the day.

I use the tubes in my 272 for dock lines.. that's about it. The big blue fenders are in the ski locker.

I tied them shorter so you don't have to reach down as far. The bad thing is they leak when it rains and those compartments get wet. I've tried to put weatherstrips in place but it has not worked 75% yet.

I have a 2006 220. I discovered that one of my fenders (Taylormade) is slightly smaller in diameter than the other. I was able to pick up another that was also smaller. They are not precision machined. I let a little air out to help and I waxed the inside of the tube. They are still a snug fit, but with a little water on them they slide in fine.
