Could anybody recommend a good bunk trailer for my 262? Any thoughts on what to avoid or options to look for? Thanks

Avoid a Dorsey. The trailer itself is great but the hitch is a royal pain. This new to me 262 has a Dorsey and I dont get along with it very well every time I hook it up. I'm probably going to take it in and have the hitch switched out.

Eagle, Loadmaster and RoadRunner are all good. Try to get a 4 bunk as its a tad easier to load than a six bunk.

Are you looking for a custom trailer or a universal one that you adjust to fit? New or used? We've had custom trailers that were included with a new boat purchase in the past. This time around, buying a used boat without a trailer, we ended up with a used galvanized Venture trailer. It's not as pretty as a custom one but I really like how everything is bolt on rather than welded. Swapping couplers is easy, if we get a tire separation that tears up a fender, just unbolt the old one and swap a new one, etc. I can make adjustments pretty easily like moving the boat forward or backward on the trailer. There's definitely something to be said for the custom ones though if you're looking for something that really looks sharp.

Are you going to be in fresh water or salt?

I plan on using it in fresh water only. Universal would be best and probably the cheapest. I'm guessing aluminium has better corrosion resistance.

What about torsion vs spring suapension?

Companies that build specific for the boat mfg is the best option.
As the weight bias and chine support are engineered for real life towing and boat hull support.

Carefull on bunks that run above the chines slightly.. axel centerline wrong causing weight heavy or too light on the toung Etc

Cobalt used several preferred builders so I would check with them on whom they used during your boats era..

They will have excact design fixed bunk and proper length.

I hate seeing boat trailers when the bunks don't go past the hull causing hook and warps under the transom..

A quick google search came up with this used one for a 262 very nice but without seeing a 262 on it your hoping for a good fit.

In the end.. if sits on the trailer all the time with you and you travel. spend the $$

If it's temporary need or seasonal look used or universal..

I had a Dorsey OEM Cobalt trailer under our 262. Like Ytmsn said, I did not care for the hitch. I also did not like how low she rode to the ground. Sure it was sleek looking, but that front cross member you see in the pic would bottom out at our steeper launch ramps here in PA. Nothing like hearing that scraping sound even while using a 5" hitch lift!

We currently have a 2016 Trail-Rite trailer under our 263. GREAT dual vented disc brakes. A little "creaky" while backing up. Average Fulton Winch mount. All LED's

I have an EZ Loader custom, and would include them among the list of high quality makers that do original trailers for Cobalt boat dealers.

I have a custom Boatmate trailer and love it. Normally a ski boat mfg, they do a heck of a job. Cobalt262, how do u plan to use the boat and trailer? To store boat in offseason or trailer it all the time all over the NE?

Eagle, loadmaster, there's so many. Aluminum had its advantages but also disadvantages. Depends on budget. Galvanized.
Well I'm more about looks so I'm a painted trailer guy. The alum trailer I owned towed very nice though but they are very long. I don't think they support as well though.
Are you buying new or used? That one in Texas it's not bad. Tuscany can tell you closer how much a trailer custom built for a boat your size can cost.

It will be for storage over the winter in NH, until I can build a garage. The boat will be on my dock during the boating season.

Go less expensive route

If your just using it to put the boat in the spring and pulling it out in the fall and its sitting outside till you get your garage. I would go with a used aluminum trailer.

Venture is another trailer option that snuggles up to the 262 nicely.

This may be an option for you in New Hampshire. They may have some leads on their used trailers as well.
