Upgrading Garmin 742XSV PLUS to 8610

Post by Caruso0644 »

Hello,

Purchasing an R8 and it has the 742XSV PLUS and I’d really like the 8610 setup. Has anyone ever upgraded this after the fact?

I’m sure it can be done but I think you’ll need money (the 8610 is quite a bit more than the 742 series), plus you’ll need a different console surround. Finally, the 8610 will need Cobalt programming to integrate. I’d start with the dealer. Good luck!

Isn't it current NEMA protocol? Why would you need Cobalt programming?

Im curious too, as I just bought a '18 R7 and one day the 742s will likely need replaced.

I pick it up today, assuming the check ride goes well. So only one pic.

It's NEMA 2000, but some manufacturers have custom screens for various things. It's probably not critical, unless you want it to look like it was original to the boat.

Thanks for the compliment. She is a wonderful ride. Just got home from an evening cruze.

Retarding software:
I doubt Cobalt developed there own proprietary software. It is likely just Garmin with a splash screen at startup. Garmin surely worked with VP and Merc, then offer mild customization for the boat manufacturers.
