docking light cover removal

I have a 2006 220 with factory docking lights. I have the MR16 led bulbs to replace the stock halogens. My question is how do the faceplates come off, or rather what comes with them? There appears to be a ring attached to the housing somehow that probably holds the glass lens in place. Does all of that come off together after you remove the 4 mounting screws and pry the face plate off? Would you start prying from the back or front or ? I have seen a picture of the plate under the cover and the stamped retaining ring holding the bulb in place with 2 springs. That part looks doable. I just don't want to break something getting to that point.

To make things easier, the boat lives on a lift. Would I be wise to wait until I pull the boat for maintenance or is it easy peasy?

If I remember its just a face plate and then once the face plate is off then there is a opportunity to take the whole light assembly out. You have to remove some covering inside the boat also. However. suggest you replace the halogen bulb with a halogen bulb because it a halogen fixture. Halogen fixture gets a Halogen bulb. LED fixture, gets a LED bulb and LED result. Again if I remember the standard OEM Cobalt docking light was readily available. The LED docking fixture required modifying the hull and for docking lights I'm not doing that. Good luck

Here you go, just make sure you have the correct sized replacement. No, you do not need a LED fixture.
