Well, did a thing today - traded in the 2012 242 for a 2020 R5 w/430 V8. Looking forward to adding a couple upgrades, while I wait for boating season.

I like the color. I actually prefer a mainly white boat not that you have a choice when you buy used.

No registration stickers...was the boat actually new?

Thanks! Not new - dealer just took the stickers off for their pics. I’ll be picking up some domed numbers, once I have the official registration.

Where did you end up trading at? That dealership doesn't look familiar. Gorgeous R5. Please give us feedback in comparison to your previous 242.

Picked it up (and left my 242) at Lake Viking an hour north of KC. I’ll be sure to update, once we get into the season. Right now, super excited about the bigger engine and the 5 minute winterization with the newer VP. Also, there are a few layout changes compared to the 242 that I like. Lastly, I have a tower again 👍.

Congrats! Great looking boat and what an upgrade from the 242 (which is also a pretty awesome boat). Get your favorite adult beverage and spend some time playing with the Garmin screens. You'll like being able to set up the gages to your preference. We are in the KC area as well, hope to see you out there this summer!

Wish I was happy with my Garmin screens....I am not. Unfortunately, one of my units NMEA 2000 interface failed so it had to be removed from the network. Unfortunately, impossible to buy a new unit to fit the Cobalt cut out for it. I just ue it as my GPS map. No NME data cn be displayed anymore.

That stinks - always a worry with the increased electronics. Surprised Cobalt or Garmin can’t pull something together, considering it’s a relatively newer model.

The biggest issue is that the new Garmin units are a different size and there are no adapters. If my second unit goes and I have no gauges(Like I did for awhile), I am going to 3D print my own adapter. I was going to wait to do this since there will be likely be ANOTHER update and then those won't fit either!

Out of curiosity, Which model Garmins do you have? Maybe you got lucky and they are newer ones. I have the Garmin 7607XSV.

I know Cobalt switched to another model after mine until they switched to 8" screens. Of course those ones right after mine have also been discontinued. They almost fit and you can kinda make them work....if you can find some to buy.

Not sure which model I have and I’m not near the boat to poke around. Here’s a pic of the 2…

Pretty sure yours is the next model up but I believe it is also discontinued since I was looking for one to buy. It would have been close enough to fit my boat with a little bit of filing plastic!

Looked back at my emails with Dwight at Cobalt. They switched to the Garmin 742 in 2021. He said it was a major pain since they had to redesign all their instrument panels.

Of course the 742 is also discontinued so they have the 743 now. Such a pain!

If I could find a new 7607XSV new in a box sitting somewhere, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Great looking R5, Tan. That should be a blast this summer. It has recently felt, spring-like here, as you well know. We bought ours at Lake Viking 5 yrs ago. Congrats and bring on the boating season!!

I can't quite picture your problem, but would something like one of these (or something similar) help?

Thanks! Yeah, the weather has been great - deserved it after the rough January! Looking forward to the Spring and splash day.
