Boat Capacity

I've looked and can't seem to find the answer to weight/person capacity. The R6 has a capacity of 14 people while the mastercraft x24 has capacity of 18 people. Both boats are similar lengths. How are the these capacities decided? Ive been told to take the capacity and divide by two for how many people can comfortably fit on your boat. Thanks for any info.

Not sure about the formula, but it’s not just size/length of boat. Other factors are type, material, and buoyancy. The number is about safety rather than comfort.

". . . weight/person capacity."

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but the industry rule of thumb is: 150 pounds per person.

Not sure of the purpose of the question but, in my experience, you run out of room to put people before you run out of capacity.

Yeah, can't imagine having 14 on my boat. Had 11 once and swore that will never happen again.

14 people is way different in calm seas than it is navigating big wakes.

This exactly. Quality boats as small as 27 feet like the Cobalt R7 and Boston Whaler Vantage 270 are Yacht Certified which means you can put as many people as you want on the boat.

I've never seen a 14 to18 person capacity on a boat. Most go from 12 to Yacht Certified. Aren't the R7 and R8 Yacht Certified?

I know my Malibu 24 MXZ had a 17 person capacity, but those wake boats are much different with how they need to be able to hand the ballast tanks. My 2020 R5 is 14. I did look at R7’s and they were yacht certified (also needed a bigger truck 😂).

Btw - I would love to get to Greers at some point!

My 24sx is 14 or 2250#, whichever comes first. The one time we had 11 was 6 adults and 5 kids. 7 in the back, 4 in the front. Made it work, but not looking to repeat it.
