Engine slowed then warning beep

A week ago, I was running in close to red line in my R7 with Volvo 430. I ran this way probably for a few miles trying to beat a storm. Right before I got in, the engine slightly slowed up on its own, then when back up to speed. As I slowed down I got an engine beep all the way in. Trying to beat the storm in, so I didn’t look at my dash for any warning codes. Yesterday I did start the boat and let it run for a few minutes and all was good. Oil level is fine. Sounds like oil pressure possibly or maybe just a sensor? Worth noting, my fuel level was at red, below 10%, but I would think that would throw a warning would it? I will be back on it later this week to run it. Anything I should be looking for?

I got to jump on it again today and run it. I couldn’t get it to make the warning beep again. I put gas in it before I took off. I seriously doubt it would give a warning beep for low fuel. But I wanted to rule this out. I ran it between 4-4,500 rpm for a good 10 minutes and it ran without any issues. Oil pressure was between 51-60 the whole time. I do wonder if I could have gotten something stuck on the lower unit causing an issue, and then when I backed into my slip, it released. Anyway, I think all is good for now.

Get it scanned. It likely stored a code and you can know for sure what happened.

So glad you found us Do3...

Yes, it sounds like you may have had a short term blockage on the lower unit (plastic bag?). Like Bruce mentioned, a code scan will help diagnose if you are really curious.

Any pics?

And welcome aboard mate!

Here is a pic of my R7

I think getting a scan is a great idea. I will do that.

I had an ignition miss that would occasionally happen. 113 hors on the engine, Did some research on my engine and found that many people had found faulty coils. My normal train of thought is it's never the coil. I asked the original owner if he had any engine miss....he said no.

I replace the 4 coils and it fixed my issue.

At a later date I bought a Rinda Diacom. Not only did I see the history of the engine miss faults that I saw but I saw 4 instances of it happening with hours before I bought the boat. Original owner had lied. I also could have replaced just one of the coils since it pointed to just two cylinders served by the same coil.

Moral of the story...nice to have a scanner...even if it is over $700!!

I have a Rinda Diacom. The actual kit you buy depends on what adapters your particular engine needs.

So glad you found us, antamy. They can certainly be handy especially if you’re a do -it -yourselfer.

And welcome aboard mate.

I also have an R7 with the 430 and experienced the same issue several weeks back while on vacation (haven't used the boat since). For me, it happened 2-3 times throughout the week. There was no code to be read from the Volvo EVC screen. A simple key off and restart cleared the alert.

Just before the alarm/code, I noticed a sudden loss of power and then back to normal just as quick. It did feel like a cylinder drop / ignition issue.

We're finally getting back to the boat next week and will see how it goes. I plan on getting the dealer to scan it after the season (unless it gets worse) but perhaps I'll grab my own scanner as well.

Thanks.

And I just added a new post yesterday. Lost all power. I am fairly certain this issue is due to electrical shorting out because of water. Both instances occurred when it was raining and dash area got wet.
