Just noticed a small new leak in the raw water pump on 2012 cobalt A2 eight with the 8.1 400 hp engine. High degree of suspicion that it is just the seals that are leaking due to age. Just wondering if anybody has had any luck on trying to rebuild the water pump or is it just easier to buy a new $400 or all water pump and install it.

They're rebuildable, but there's figuring out what parts you need and whether you want the down time during summer to factor in. Or, you could do both - get a new one and rebuild the old one so you have a spare on hand :)

Anyone have a diagram on how to replace the 8.1 water pump, by the looks of it, It should be a pretty simple job

Search YouTube. May not be in a Cobalt, but bet there's an 8.1 Volvo video out there for you. This is a pretty common maintenance item.
