VP Throttle Unresponsive

HI All,

Had a weird experience this weekend with our R3 (VP 350). =Dealer dropped our boat into the water at the lake on Friday and I idled it to the slip and tied it up.

That evening, my daughter and I took the boat out through a no wake zone (at idle) and I heard a periodic beep with a yellow triangle showing on the base of the throttle. When I pushed the throttle forward to accelerate the engine was non responsive. I continued to idle the boat onto the lake and then took a chance and shut the engine off and then restarted it. The problem cleared and the engine is behaving normally.

Anyone know what the fault was? The dealer had just run the boat up for spring (at the dealership) and I was surprised to have a problem.

Maybe just a dirty contact from sitting over the off season. But hey it's telling You to go buy the surf boat! Lol
Glad my bb has a cable! Hammer down!

Talking to tgrace98 did you start it in gear as that will cause what you had.

Thanks for the reply, it was started in neutral. It was a bit bizarre and happily it didn't repeat. Hopefully it was just a glitch.

As to the surf model, I don't think I'll be heading in that direction. If anything, after a water test it would be an R6 Sterndrive. My kids (14, 17) have expressed no interest in surfing and given that Cobalts "dual use" surfboat isn't the best surf wave you can buy, I'd probably pass on it for that reason. Malibu, Centurion, Nautique would be better choices for surfing, in my opinion.

But, I'll want to water test an R6 before I buy. Some people have commented that the newer "even" R series boats don't plane as easily as the old ones with the extended running surface, so I'd like to try before I buy.

You will need to page thru the EVC screen and read the fault code, but do not turn the engine off otherwise it may clear. You should also be able to see the fault with the Easy Connect app.

I had this issue early on in my boat's life. Dealer had to replace to throttle assembly. I've seen this a few times on this board. Concerning.
