Catalytic Thermostat/alarm?

Hey Team, have been enjoying the heck out of our 2014 232 for three weeks but ran into an issue on Wednesday night. We docked at a marina and the only spot they had was loaded with seaweed. We had dinner and when we left the marina I got clear of the no wake zone and ran it up to WOT and within minutes got overheat and a check engine. I shut her down and was fortunate to have someone close by to tow us to the dock and rather then take chances I trailered it home. I think I had sea weed and or muck impeding water flow but to be safe the next day, I replaced the impeller (which was worn but intact), the T stat and flushed everything as best as I could. As of now it runs up to temp, the engine temp gauge reads a nice and normal 153 and I can hear the t stat open, lots of water coming out of the exhaust when on the ears, but after about 5 minutes I get a check engine and an alarm. The alarm is an intermittent beeping, every second or two (or three) I haven't counted the interval which I have read is likely exhaust temp warning. The risers, where I believe the CATS are get very hot, to hot to touch, and over 200 with the IR thermometer, the starboard side hotter then the port so I think that tracks with exhaust temp. I understand that boats with CATS do get hotter there then ones without but not that hot. There is a thermostat on the riser, which I THINK allows water to flow through the CAT area. What are the chances that the over heat event ruined one or both or that they got clogged with crap? Anyone replace one of these before? I did pull them off and they appear clear. I don't think my boat has easy connect to check the codes. It is all very frustrating, I don't want to just start throwing parts at it but also don't want to tow it an hour to the closest somewhat reputable dealer if I don't have to. Any thoughts? The only thing I haven't done is try to flush water through the line that exits that "CAT thermostat", they have crimped hose clamps on them and will need to be cut off and I didn't have any replacement gear type clamps of that size in the garage.
