Purchasing a 2006 282 have questions
We are getting ready to purchase a 2006 282 with twin 6.2 and I have some questions. Mechanically it looks good and I have no real concerns there. I am waiting on the compression tests. The only areas of concern are on the starboard side of the hull. There is one small spot of spider cracking where they got into something. There is also a single vertical surface crack about a foot long in the middle of the side. The hull is solid and the spider and single crack area appear to be cosmetic only. I have done gelcoat repair before and am comfortable with repairing them myself. The only odd areas I spotted are on each side of the hull there is a vertical "high spot " that is equal and present in the same spot and size on both sides of the hull. It is in the area where the taper for the bow starts. it is only on the vertical sides of the hull and does not continue down onto the running surface of the hull. Does anyone know if this is normal for these hulls? There is nothing above or below these high spots that would indicate it is a repaired area and they are way too equal on each side. TIA and any help is appreciated!

Re: Purchasing a 2006 282 have questions
I'm not familiar, but hopefully others who have had similar boats will chime in. Could you post a picture of what you're talking about? I wonder if it's a mounting spot for a rail or arch or something that wasn't used.

The spider crack is from an impact, it radiates from the center. The center is solid and the cracks just need ground out and filled. Its the high spots that I am unsure of. They run from the rub rail all the way to the water line right where the taper for the bow starts. They are present and identical on both sides so I am assuming its just part of the design. There are no cracks anywhere near them.

Re: Purchasing a 2006 282 have questions
The vertical crack is what I call the “282 crack” it is always in the same area you speak of. Sometimes, in some pictures you can actually see where the hull begins, an actual angle in the photos. I was made aware of this crack years ago because we did transport some boats back in that time frame. There just isn’t enough material there to keep it from flexing just enough. As I patiently wait to purchase a new boat if I end up with a 82 that will be a winter project. I believe, that after they started to appear the changed the layers in that area. I hope somebody from the factory can jump in and confirm that. To my knowledge, it happened to all of them until a factory change. Again, this is all to what I remember and looking at pictures of every one of them that has been posted on the internet for years. I hope somebody from the factory can chip in some more info. There is one about 4 hours from me that I’ve been watching all year and I’m hoping with another price reduction it might be mine!!!! Again, I’ve known about that vertical crack from almost day one, it doesn’t bother me and to my knowledge they all have had in their earlier life. I wouldn’t let it bother my personal purchase. The one nearest me is a single screw and I’m ok with that also.
