We had annual service done, impeller crank mount, R&R pump and actuator + gimbal bearing.
Got the boat back in the water, 15 minutes in the belt rubbing smell, then squealing, then the belt was obliterated.
It's been making noise for the last couple of summers and all three mechanics say they fixed, but now I'm stuck and not going back to my recent mechanic. Was going to bite the bullet and take it to the dealer.
I understand there are issues with the mounts or brackets?
Anyone have specific experience with this and fixed it? Would appreciate understanding a bit more before I go and have it fixed (hopefully one final time)
Someone just told me it'd require a whole new pump kit (which I would strongly doubt.. but I suppose if it's a different design that stays put and the belt stays on the pully, maybe)
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Assuming Volvo since it has the crank mounted pump.
I wonder how careful they were to inspect the pump bearing play. I would also be considering replacing the idler pulley.

Start by inspecting all belt driven accessories to be fully operational. Check pulley alignment with a straight edge. For a belt to grenade in 15 min, there should be obvious signs of what the cause of this problem is. I can't agree more, do not go back to that mechanic. Post a few pictures of the front of the motor and maybe we can see something that is not right.

So glad you found us Chris.
Interesting that 3 mechanics could not diagnose this issue. Seems fairly straightforward to check your pulley alignment or bearing play. Shredding a belt in 15 minutes is very abnormal. Idler pulley replacement would be a quick inexpensive solution to check. I used to mount our goPro camera in the engine compartment and record the engine under load to diagnose leaks or odd challenges.
Keep us apprised.
And welcome aboard mate.

I have an inexpensive GoPro clone for just these purposes. I can mount it under my vehicles to check for suspension noises.AsLan7 wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:13 amI used to mount our goPro camera in the engine compartment and record the engine under load to diagnose leaks or odd challenges.
