Ignition loose - how to fix

Post by brandboat23 »

My 2023 R4 surf ignition is loose. When I try to start , it just turns and spins and engine won’t turn on. After when I get it to start, then same issue , ignition won’t shut off. I have to nudge it a few times and it eventually turns engine off. Any suggestions?

Look behind the dash - there should be a nut you can tighten.

There's a loose nut behind my dash, but he can still start his boat ;)

On a related note, here's a photo of my ignition panel (a new one I had made to accommodate a Fusion marine remote) - you can see the nut on the right side of the panel, usually held snug with a star/lock washer:

Update, Cobalt corp said when the 2023 R4 surf models were built they ran out of ignition switches and installed some no name off brand. Service has now installed an offical OEM ignition and it’s all stainless steel and robust. Problem solved

Huh, that's disappointing to hear about the substitute switch being used in manufacturing. Looks like my original ignition switch was made by Cole Hersee (see the photo a couple posts above). Glad they made it right,
