Im sure this has been discussed before. What oil are most of y'all using in your Volvo Penta?

Thanks in advance! :)

I've been using Mobil 1 15w-50 (Volvo says any 30w or higher is fine, but no 0w-30). Lighter oil might give slightly better fuel economy, but I tend to be a bit conservative about wanting my wear additives and the like.

Edit - here's a link to the PDF listing Mobil's various synthetic offerings: https://mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us/pv ... -guide.pdf

BTW, the OEM volvo penta oil is supposedly Amsoil 10W-40 in the US, and Mobil 1 15W-50 in most of the rest of the world. See, for example, the discussion at http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtop ... w=previous

Thanks for ya'lls input. :) I'm a big fan of Mobil 1, think they make a great product and will be the oil I use. Also considering paying for the VP oil since I'll only be changing once a season.

Only some of you wished you did.lol

When I had a Merc I used their 25w40 oil also.

Correct you only change it once a year so cost isn't that big of a deal.

These days I'm not sure it would be easy to find a "bad" oil, but it's one of the few things you get to pick about your engine so it's tempting to put too much thought into it.

My favorite versions of these threads are "you HAVE to use Amsoil/Royal Purple/whatever - it's the best 'cause I have used only that for four years now and never had a problem," as if oil-related failures are at all common.

Yep, next few weeks now, and this is #1 (a boy). I'm sure we're overprepared for many things, and underprepared for others.

Absolutely awesome John! Kids give you a whole new reason for getting up every day! Greatest thing that ever happened to me without a doubt was having my son and daughter.

Yep, it’s seeming a bit more real now that we’re close. We’ve got plenty of gear (including a cool hat with sharks) and lots of advice. I think we’re as prepared as we’re going to get anyway.
