Garmin 8610 update

I have a 2024 R6, in my attempt to update the Garmins the system wanted to format the memory cards that came installed on the system, there are two preinstalled, one of the cards is labeled as the chart plot, the other is not named. Can I assume it is okay to have the system use the unnamed card to run the system update. I am guessing it uses it to back up of the system.

I searched garmins site, but could not find what I was looking for as the site assumes you have no cards installed whe you run your first update,

It sounds like it should be safe, but if there's a card with no label and no indication it contains anything, I'd be tempted to pop it in a card reader on my PC to see what it's being used for before formatting it. I've always updated Garmin stuff using a card I bought separately, and carried the card to where my boat is - a new 64GB name brand micro SD card is under $10, although I don't think I have many that small around anymore. See https://a.co/d/giJLccp for example.

Note Garmin's website recommends against using a card that's used for maps or ActiveCaptain, and has instructions for updating using a separate card at: https://www8.garmin.com/support/downloa ... sp?id=8743
