Do you have a photo of the gas cap? Cobalt didn't make it, so it comes down to recognizing it and finding a replacement.

Almost certain that yours was made by Southco, who unfortunately dropped their marine line several years ago.

Does yours look like these? https://www.cobaltchat.com/viewtopic.ph ... 28#p114028

Marine Town is apparently still making pop-up caps for the old Orcas/Southco deck fills. The “current required surcharge” is 25% added on due to tariffs as these caps are made in China.

Please sincerely forgive the delay in reply and thank you for your new inquiry. I have provided pricing information below for the replacement caps for the 1-1/2" and 2" fills. Please be advised all orders will also require 6% sales tax, current required surcharge, and shipping costs.

8807201-1 (CAP & CABLE FOR POP-OUT DECK FILL 1-1/2")
$71.82/ea

8907208-1 (CAP & CABLE FOR POP-OUT DECK FILL 2")
$94.62/ea

If there is a specific quantity you are in need of, please advise and I would be happy to verify the current lead time with our inventory coordinator. In regards to the locking variations of these caps, I will need some additional time to look into this with our inventory coordinator to see if they can be made available. I will reach back out with this information as soon as possible.

[edited to add that the current required surcharge is 25%.]

I have a 2007 232 as well, and the spring-loaded security cable is about ready to break, it is frayed where it hangs over the lip of the threads. Is it possible to replace just the cable? I assume I would need to remove the whole unit from the deck and perform some mechanical surgery. The spring looks to be in decent shape.

The problem is that there is a hole on a lug down inside the neck of the deck fill that the cable goes through from the bottom. I suppose you could try to thread the new cable up through that lug hole with a set of locking forceps or something similar. You would run a serious risk of something going wrong and dropping the cable down into the fuel tank.

Here’s some pics of what I’ve currently got going on. Call closes fine, but won’t collapse to flush mount and the leash is broken.
Thanks ahead of time for any help!

You definitely have the Orcas/Southco pop-out gas deck fill. Did the rest of the lanyard and spring end up in your gas tank?

What do you mean when you say your cap will not close flush? Are you saying that it will close flush but won’t stay flush, or does it feel like something is blocking it from going flush? Does the cap feel like there is a spring inside that pops the cap up?

There are two sizes of these pop-out deck fills, one for 2” hose and one for 1-1/2” hose. The 2” hose version has a 3-1/4” diameter with a 2” cap diameter. The 1-1/2” hose version measures 2-7/8” diameter with a 1-13/16” cap diameter.

I had good luck refurbishing my pop up caps by spraying down/filling the pop up mechanism with Corrosion X and working that in. I let them sit upside down and let the excess run out and they work perfectly now. There really is no real good way to deal with the broken cables, I did find some replacement cables that had a springy type clip that you stuck down the filler neck and the other end screwed into the bottom of the fuel cap but i was leary of sticking more stuff down the filler neck that could fall into the tank so i just unscrewed the broken cable from the fill cap and am extremely careful with the caps now when i fill up!

@titaniumboy - to answer your questions: 1. Lanyard was severed when I bought the boat, so assuming that yes, the rest of the assembly is In the tank. 2. Cap will push down flush, but not stay there. Feels like a spring forcing it back up.
@jwilll323- thanks for the tip, will try the corrosion X solution. I, likewise, am reticent to risk any further debris in the tank, so will write off the leash and just use caution when I fill.
As always, really appreciate the help on this forum! Happy boating!!

Your gas cap won’t turn slightly clockwise when you press it flush? Is your deck fill sized for a 1-1/2” or 2” fuel line?

It should do like a 1/4 turn clockwise when you push it down to lock in the down position. If it's not turning the Corrosion X will fix it.

Did you ever get your gas cap to lock in the down position? If you weren’t successful and are still wanting to stay with the pop-out style, I have a couple of spare pop-out gas caps for sale.

As an alternative there are some non pop-out gas caps out in the marketplace that would be a more economical solution.
