Greetings to all. We just acquired a gently used 2006 Cobalt 323. Looking to learn as much as I can, this forum has been super helpful as I've been doing research leading up to the purchase. Thanks all for your support. Here is a picture of her...

It's crazy looking at that picture and thinking the boat's about 20 years old. A great way to explain in one photo what's special about Cobalt boats.

rpeyton welcome to the forum and huge congrats on your new Cobalt, looks like it's been well taken care of.

We keep our 302 on the pier in the background.

congrats, great looking boat! what engines do you have in her? I've got an 07 323, let me know if you have any questions, I've been through ours pretty thoroughly so if you have anything come up I might be able to help! congratulations again, she's a beauty!

Thanks to all for the warm welcome!

SeattleA28 - I'll keep an eye out for you! We keep her over in Newport, so pretty close by.

Jwill - Before the purchase, your past posts were great and helped in my decision to buy this boat. In answer to your question, it has twin Penta 5.7GXi-G engines with duoprop outdrives. I have many questions...will shoot you a separate message so I don't clog up the airwaves.

Best regards!

Please do "clog up the airwaves."

Some of us are fascinated by those questions and answers.

For sure. Others will benefit from your work on your boat, just as you benefited from JWIll posting his.

This is your thread - no need to worry about hijacking it!

Thanks for the encouragement!

I would like to get digital readout on some of my engine metrics, particularly RPM and fuel consumption, and have been looking at the Yacht Devices gateway, as well as the Volvo Penta EasyConnect. I suspect they do the same, one being branded and more expensive. Any reasons to not go with the YD device? As a reminder, my engines are 5.7 Gxi-G and am pretty sure they are non-EVC (model #3869313).

Thanks!

Not 100% sure but I think your engine has the MEFI-4 ECM and you could also use the Fox Marine MEFI-4 engine gateway in the above link. This is the same manufacturer i used on mine and have been really happy with. you need 1 gateway per engine and it feeds out NMEA 2K data to your choice of MFD. The nice thing on the Fox gateway is the app which gives you a bluetooth link to a bunch of additional engine data and the ability to read and clear fault codes so it can also be used as a engine diagnostic tool and mine has helped me troubleshoot an engine issue.

I have heard good things about the Yacht Devices gateway as well but have no knowledge of its working or integration.

if you haven't seen my post on my electronics upgrade I go through some of the install in there.
