R5 Swim step

Hello folks!
I need some help with my swim step on my 2020 R5. I have some damage to the edge of my step from last weekend. I'll attach a couple of pics. Looking for suggestions on how to repair it and if it's something that I can do, take it somewhere or try and replace it? If it's recommended to take it somewhere, then any suggestions for a temporary fix until the offseason? I do care that the permanent fix looks really good! Thanks in advance for all your recommendations!

From the looks of that it appears that any fiber glass shop should be capable of making a permanent repair. I have had a repair done on my R7 swim platform on the edge. They are also available to be purchased thru a Cobalt dealer for around $ 350.00

As a temp fix, wide roof repair tape might work. It adheres well, and resists sun and water.

A repair's not rocket science, but this damage looks like more than a little scrape. I wonder if the cost to repair would come close to or exceed the cost of a replacement step? Thanks for chiming in, CCTVdc.

For a temporary fix I would sand/cleanup the loose stuff and use Marine Tex to seal it up. Later you will need to take it off, remove the SeaDeck etc and do a permanent repair. Marine Tex is a thickened colored epoxy - what you need at least for now to seal all that back up, keep water out of it and prevent further damage from using it.
I'm not fiberglass expert, but I've done some small fiberglass and gelcoat repairs over the years -- that is what I would do. I don't know if you can save the SeaDeck, definitely needs to come off to repair it properly.

What happened? Prop hit it when it was down?
Good luck with it -- I would be made at myself if I let that happen (I've done other just as bad things!) Thinks happen, most can be fixed with time and $$.

Thanks for the replies! I did call my Cobalt dealer and they said the same thing about the repair being more expensive than replacement. So I did order a new swim step. It was $375.00. It has to be made by Cobalt since they don't keep a stock. They told me 6-8 weeks!

Wow, a lot less $$ than I would have thought. In that case I don't think I would do anything to it, maybe just sand off some of the loose stuff. Hopefully you can save your SeaDeck and put on the new one.

Yeah, a custom-made new deck for under $400 and 6-8 weeks is pretty remarkable customer service. Glad you're going to be back to new!

The SeaDeck is pretty worn and has a couple of tears so I am just going to replace it!

Unfortunately you are going to pay more for the sea deck than the swim step if you buy from Cobalt. They only sell the sea deck in complete sets. We have an R7 and it was over 900.00 you may be able to get it from an outside source at a little more reasonable cost.

Thank you for letting me know! There is a place nearby that does the SeaDeck and I'll just get it from them!

Correction on the price of the swim step. The guy quoted me $375.00 over the phone, but after looking at the invoice it is $345.00!
