Hello from Augusta, GA

Post by EndoTiger »

I've been on the forum for a little while and even made a few posts, but I've mostly stayed away because I felt like a total poser! I didn't own a boat, much less a Cobalt. But, I've been shopping for a LONG time. Early on, I knew that Cobalt was the boat for me. I'm a real sucker for fit, finish, and the appearance (and hopefully the reality) of quality. I initially was pretty set on getting an R5, and even had planned a day to meet with the dealer, hand him my spreadsheet of desired options and prices, and give him a check. But when it came down to it, I was still a little too uneasy about pulling the trigger. But, if everything goes as planned, this Friday I'll be the VERY proud owner of an R3! It's a 2016 WSS model with 50 hrs on it. I couldn't be more excited! I've locked down a slip at my local marina, and I've placed a deposit on a Hydrohoist. The lift probably won't be installed for another month or so. Getting the boat this Friday is contingent on the trailer arriving at the dealer on Thursday as scheduled, so hopefully that'll happen. Looking forward to learning a lot from you seasoned Cobalt owners. This summer is looking great!

Great to hear ET!!!!

So glad you let our dysfunctional family know here. :D

Do you recall what options it has? Which ones you wish it had? Engine size?

You have some great memories on the water coming up this summer.

Congrats on your future R3 procurement. Pics will be forthcoming we hope. :D

Oh yes, pics for sure.

These are the specs:
2016 R3 WSS
Navy side, white hull, red edge stripe
300 HP Volvo Penta
Docking Lights
White folding tower with Navy bimini
Terra interior
Sea grass flooring
Sof-Trac mat on the swim platform
Swim platform lighting
Underwater lighting
Interior accent lighting
Premium Stereo (the JL Audio upgrade w/ Transom Speakers)

It's a pretty well-equipped R3 and very clean as well. As far as a slightly used R3, I don't think I was gonna do much better. The only real thing I wish it had is the twin Garmins. That didn't start until 2017. But I think I'll get over it pretty quick!

Very cool. I kept seeing your name at the bottom as logged in but no posts. We don't care if you own a boat just talking about boats is good enough.
Well congrats. Where will you be boating?
I can't wait to see pictures.

Ha Ha BB, yeah I've done my share of lurking around here. Learned a ton! I'll be boating on Clarks Hill Lake (also called Lake Thurmond). It's a large lake on the border of Georgia and South Carolina. My marina is about 15 minutes from the house. Actually, it's more like 18 or 19 minutes but I've been consistently calling it 15 minutes to make this whole proposal sound as attractive as possible to the wife :)

Hey thats awesome! 24' cobalts are very roomy boats and only gets cramped IMO at about 10 people. Buts assuming some are kids. In other words im sure youll be happy with your boat. Getting all that nailed down in a short time must be a great feeling.

Thanks TR! I think it'll be perfect for now and leave plenty of room for 2-footitis in the years to come!

Btw, it’s great to have a forward drive boat on the site ET.

We will expect a full description of your experience...from launching...to lake surfing....to to loitering...to loading...to lay up. :D

Well, I looked into it pretty heavily, but this is not a forward drive (just the WSS, not the Surf model).
