Re: Garmin GPSMAP 743XSV and Airmar B150M in 2023 Cobalt CS23
Nice work, and thanks for the play-by-play! Many of these projects are pretty doable once you've seen someone else go through the steps - hopefully your post inspires the next DIY!

Re: Spare key
Yes, Cobalt doesn't make their own keys or switch cylinders. Not sure what they were using in 2007, but most locksmiths with retail operations should be able to make a new one (including most hardware stores - Hillman #78 blanks often work). Note there are a limited number of keys used in Cobalts, a...

Re: Trailer tires
2020 isn't that old if they're not showing signs of wear and were stored well. Goodyear had a poor trailer tire reputation with the Marathon, but their Endurance is a pretty popular tire and has a good reputation as an upgrade tire. Lots of mid-tier and asian-made tires out there are cheaper and qui...

Re: Gel coat cracks…
That's pretty unusual, and looks a lot like an impact to me. I'd want a better understanding of what caused it and why it won't happen again from Cobalt.

Re: Thoughts on R5 EVC error w/odd engine behavior
It makes sense that it would be something they tinkered with during winterization or bringing it back out, but I can't think of what that would be unless they were fiddling with the throttle controls or the engagement clutch on the sterndrive. I'm sure others will chime in shortly.

Re: No Oil Pressure(?)
Update: after one month in the shop I finally heard from the service manager that they had exhausted all options, and realized they needed a special tool to test the pump system (suspect somewhere in the drive system for the pump). They then came back and said probably a bearing, will need to send ...

Re: No Oil Pressure(?)
That's terrible luck. I've heard good things about Jasper engines, but your string of bad luck makes me wonder how good their quality control really is, or if the installer's not doing the best job getting things set up right.

Re: Battery Question
It's really up to you how much you want to spend on a battery or how often to replace it. I've kept mine for maybe 8 years before replacing, but stagger replacement between two batteries so I get a new one every four years. I can combine batteries with the battery switch to start if it's ever needed...

A lot of surf and ski boats seem to be made in Tennessee, and I'm guessing they're consolidating there.

Re: Marine versus Teak Oil
My guess is that it's spots that still have more residual teak oil in them and absorb at a different rate. Sikkens products are usually top shelf, and I'm glad it's working out in the end.

Re: 2010 A-Series Gauge Driver Faults
All these errors are on the dash gauges? I'd start there if the engine runs ok, making sure everything's plugged in securely and isn't corroded (i.e., unplug and re-plug the cables and connectors). You can also take a look for anything that may be shorting while you're behind the dash. From there, I...
