Re: ‘88 21BR Dying as Drive is Lowered
Went and fooled with it this morning. The incline gauge use to indicate the angle. Now it shows either all the way up or all the way down. Once it kicks over to all the way down, the engine dies. If I raise it just a hair, I can restart the engine and the cruise at whatever speed I want to. Is that ...

Re: ‘88 21BR Dying as Drive is Lowered
I’m wonderthat as well but don’t understand how they would be affecting the running of the engine as the drive is lowered. Any pieces would be internal to the engine, the drive is external to the engine.

‘88 21BR Dying as Drive is Lowered
Well, I installed the new control box and everything worked fine but apparently my muffs came loose while I was testing it. Guess what happens when your muffs come loose - you burn up your impeller. Of course I was in the middle of the lake when I found out. Well, the impeller has now been replaced ...

Re: 1988 Bravo 1 Not Going Into Gear
Thanks. Yes, the engine was off. Before I run the engine I would need to reinstall the control box, which I had to cut wires to uninstall it. I'm going to call Mercruiser Tech support in the morning and ask them if, with the control box removed, should the black button should pop out when the lever ...

Re: 1988 Bravo 1 Not Going Into Gear
I’ve removed the control box and detached the 2 cables. The center black plastic button still pop out. With the back off, as I move the throttle, only the upper cable arm moves.

Re: 1988 Bravo 1 Not Going Into Gear
The weather's warmed up so I can back to this. With the engine not on, I tried moving the throttle and it went forward and back without any issue. The black plastic center piece still doesn't pop out. I watched the top of the engine as I moved the throttle. The arm attached to the carb moved but I ...

Re: 1988 Bravo 1 Not Going Into Gear
Can’t tell if it needs adjustment since it’s so hard to move and the black center piece won’t pop out.

1988 Bravo 1 Not Going Into Gear
Hi - At the end of last season (on my very last ride) my 21BR gave me a hard time going into gear. Couldn't get it into reverse and once I got it into forward, I had very little throttle throw. The black plastic center piece on the throttle arm won't pop out. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

1988 Bravo 1 Upper Sterndrive Rear Cover
This is the 2nd year in a row that my 1988 Bravo 1 upper rear stern drive cover has cracked. It’s not the upper cover but the upper cover on the back of the sterndrive. It cracked the same place last year and I replaced it. Its down by the lower mounting bolt. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks in ...

Re: 1988 21BR Not Starting
thanks again everyone. Followed a troubleshooting flowchart from Mercruiser tech Support and it's also pointing to the ignition sensor. Now the trick is to get the rotor off of the distributor....its stuck.

Re: 1988 21BR Not Starting
Thanks for the replies - Where is the safety lanyard? The kill engine switch on the throttle is in the correct position. There is one circuit breaker on the dash popped out but no label what it is for.

1988 21BR Not Starting
Hi - I purchased this from the original owner in August of '18. It has the 7.4L Mercruiser V8. Used it 6 times in Maine before I moved it to SC in October with no staring issues. Went to start it this week and it started right up, ran for about 2 minutes then died. Cranks now but won't start. It's ...
